Re: Keep the Cockpit

Having cockpits makes some craft unflyable - the Y-Wing in paticular, lets you see only 1/3 of space. WHile cockpits are good, maybe you could cut some of them down a llittle?

Re: Keep the Cockpit

Well I for one also think the cockpit should be required not optional, but that there does need to be the ability to look around the inside, that way it does make you think more about what to fly, and as for the Y-Wing thing, it'd encourage teamwork to win, since a strict bomber should NOT be flying solo, it should have some cover fighters with it to prevent it from getting destroyed easily.

In Star Wars Galaxies I use fly quite often and although I no longer use TIE's, it took awhile to get used to them since you only have a forward view and an upper view thats quite hard to use since its for small slits in the top hatch. This adds greatly to immersion and once again would add to teamwork since it'd help prevent TIE's from going out solo, they'd pretty much HAVE to use wingmen to stand a chance, or be EXCELLENT pilots.

So in the whole long winded thing...make it so you have to use the cockpit.

It could work like the HUDs on BF2 aircraft except that it vanishes when you change the camera.

That wouldn't show up on the screens in the cockpit, if thats what you mean?

And about the Y-Wings, is there anything official on having a gunner on some of them? The gunner would make up for the blind spot, and can be the gunner AND bomber... I guess it depends though.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

Well the Y-wing isn't much of a free sight and look around role. It should be a slow bomber with no dogfighting skills you know.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

I have a targeting computer system we will be testing in the near future.

The Y wing is actually a fighter. While slower than the X wing it certainly has dogfighting skills. It was the main rebel fighter before the X wing.

Oh , and personally im all for locked cockpit views.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

You also have to remember that although the Y-Wing is slower and not as easy to meneuver, the TIE's ONLY real benefit was their speed, a single decent shot would be enough to cripple them, hence the Y-Wings turret, it made it a LOT more dificult for TIE's to get a good angle on the Y-Wing for kill shots. But since we're gonna have X-Wings and I have a feeling the TIE's will be a bit more balanced out for gameplay, the Y-Wings are most likely going to need escort fighters.

Oh and is there going to be a way for the lore shielded fighters to have charged shields that get eaten up overtime in the game? or is that hoping for too much?

Re: Keep the Cockpit

We have just discussed shields ,and continue to do so.

the main thing for me is the look is just right (no visible shield and small white explosions). We certainly will be implementing shields (at least in testing).

If successful, i think you'll be happy at the outcome smile
