Re: Keep the Cockpit

I have a feeling regardless I'll be happy at the outcome, but just started thinking about that, I suppose if that doesnt work if youre not worried about the balance you could give the shielded fighters more armor...but of course balance gets brought up and I dont know how you're going to handle that, hopefully better then they did in SWG...tch...TIE fighters with shields...

Re: Keep the Cockpit

I'm for forced, realistic cockpits -- long as they are useful -- like I'd really like it so that the cockpit told you useful information like shield/hull strength, number of torpedoes, sorta thing, that won't be shown to you if you go for a third person view.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

The Y-Wing should be able to dogfight, the B-Wing and TIE Bomber less so. They are truly sluggish craft that can try to dogfight, but which should be escorted by faster fighters.

As for Rebel fighters being better than Imperial fighters, they should be. Make the Imperial fighters more numerous as a result.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

Isnt the B-Wing actually MEANT to dogfight? Hence heavy armament and was in response to the lack of a really good fighter-bomber role craft? Not really up to spec on the details of the B-Wing but thats what I thought it was for...

This A-wing cockpit takes up half the screen and this is the only thing we've seen posted so far.

Y-Wing cockpit

If you could lose about 1/4 of that cockpit it would be fine.

My "not possible" comment refered to the targeting computer idea of Jerk's, not of the "look around in your cockpit" idea. Just for the record tongue .

It could work like the HUDs on BF2 aircraft except that it vanishes when you change the camera.

That wouldn't show up on the screens in the cockpit, if thats what you mean?

And about the Y-Wings, is there anything official on having a gunner on some of them? The gunner would make up for the blind spot, and can be the gunner AND bomber... I guess it depends though.

I just got a great idea for the targeting computer. It could replace the hide cockpit view. When you change to this mode it puts a big black screen with a cross hair in your face. In other words, the pilot switches the targeting computer on and looks at it. All vehicles are highlighted and easily seen, but the terrain, asteroids and stuff can't be seen, so it's a bad idea to use it in a place with lots of obstacles. There's also a few instruments that show you where you're facing and your altitude so you don't reach non existent ground or go too high in a space map too easily. It also makes a alerting beep sound when an enemy is in the middle your cross hair.
