Re: Keep the Cockpit

Regarding the Y-wing vs. B-wing topic. I'll just give basic gist of these two craft and won't delve into the really fine technical nitty-gritty. Mainly because of time and I don't want to be an irritance. lol tongue

Both craft have different combat designations. The Y-wing is classifed as an Attack starfighter while the B-wing is classified as a Heavy Assault starfighter. Technically, neither of them are bombers. The Y-wing is a multi-purpose ship and is extraordinarily versatile. Capable of effectively handling everything from surgical strikes and precision bombing to escort, dogfighting and just about everything in between. The B-wing is also a pretty versatile craft, although it was designed for a much more specialized role: to engage and eliminate/disable Imperial capitol ships. Which is no small task. The Y-wing carries precision short/long range targeting systems and devastating firepower as well as an astromech droid. It's also faster, more maneuverable, and has tougher armor & shield systems than the B-wing. However, the B-wing is also outfitted with precision targeting systems and has a much smaller target signature. The gyro system keeps the B-wing's signature inconsistent with the crafts true position. The B-wing carries firepower even greater than the Y-wing and has an enormous firing arc thanks to the swing wing system of the gyroscope and the s-foils. The B-wing can be a very tricky fatherless child to hit because of the slim fore and aft profile of the craft coupled with the gyroscopic stabilization system. The B-wing's shield & armor ratings are almost on par with the Y-wing's and both craft are capable of carrying a wide array of weapons. Although, the B-wing's weapon emplacements are modular and can be outfitted with numerous weapon configurations.

There's obviously more to it than this, but I'll get to it another time if anyone cares. big_smile wink

Re: Keep the Cockpit

I'm sire that B-Wings are supposed to be tougher than Y-Wings. Please cite a source.

By XWA (and I know it can be incorrect) the B-Wing has 125 shield and 60 hull, the Y-wing 75 shield and 40 hull.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

Overall it is tougher, but because its harder to hit not neccesarily because of its actual armor basically is what he's saying. And its reasonable to believe the, considering most of the ship is made of wings, the armor on it would be lacking with only one well armored 'core' and cockpit. While the Y-Wing is more compact and can more easily be armored since its got less TO armor. However due to the dificulty to HIT a B-Wing compared to a Y-Wing the B-Wing is a tougher target.

The B-Wing can rotate around the cockpit, but turns from the 'core' where the engines are and has a slim shape. The Y-Wing rotates around its center axis..and turns accordingly since its a solid shape, thus its easier to lead it and hit it in theory then the B-Wing.

Back to the problem of using mouse look with a joystick. Does anyone know of a program that will convert a button press into a mouse movement? I just checked and there's no way to do it through the controls in 2142.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

And surely the other fighters such as A-Wings, E-Wings et al have built-in computers that do the jobs of the astromech droids (except maybe repairs, or was that was you were thinking of)?

Nope, sorry, budd. Try asking around.

Re: Keep the Cockpit

About the targeting system...

I remeber that back in the old computer game X-Wing (Not X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter) there was a targeting computer that actually worked in the X-Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing, and B-Wing. There was a 3D Radar, then the wireframe view of a Imperial craft and getting it into the center reticle and getting a clean shot. There was also another targeting computer system for the Death Star Trench Run mission, where the targeting system (I believe, about 95% sure) went from it's radar/wireframe targeting to the wireframe view of the trenches and a number countdown to how far you were from the exhaust port, and when you could see the exhaust port, a wireframe view of the port itself.

Isn't that what the hat is for? That's how I use it.
