Thanks for clearing that up everyone, especially The_Preacher. I have my confidence a bit better now, but I will have to wait and play it smile

You know, thats another thing, hehe. I am not sure about in the star wars galaxy it would be like this, but realistically, a "det pack" in real life would do little to a tank unless placed underneath it. If theres an explosive placed on a tank, armor of the tank on one side while there is open air on the other, which way do you thing the explosion will go? Away from it. The armor bight be a bit charred tongue.

Some modern tanks even use, "reactive armor" which is essentially explosives placed on the outside of a tank which detonate when something hits it, blowing away the projectile that has impacted upon it.

I'm just coming up with reasoning against it from a realism perspective, but the real reason I don't like it is because it sort of eliminates the "subconscious teamwork" factor when one lone guy can run in, place explosives on a tank, and blow it up.

I assume the detpacks have directional explosions, kind of like claymores.

That reactive armor thing - that sounds rather risky - I wouldn't want to bump into a tank with that.

Re: Star Destroyer! Yee-haa!

Well ya always got a bunh of thermite which literally burns through the armor (4000+ degrees), and indeed C4 wouldn't help that much, but nothing stops you from placing it  underneath..

THe Barret XM107 payload rifle can actualy pierce through the amor of a tank between the turret and the base and detonate a projectile inside the tank, from 1,5km away ,that'll work too of course big_smile

PR has realistic damage, and still has lots of teamwork. So making classes specialized does not really ruin teamwork at all, it just strengthens it in a different way.

Huh? You misunderstood me completely. The specialized classes and realism in PR is one of the main reasons it has lots of teamwork.

I have played PR from the very first release. I am also a tester for it. I love it, it is amazing to me, so I know all about it tongue Excuse me to everyone, (especially the DEV team) if I ever sound like I am trying to get something in the game more realistic..hehe, I am such a realism fan at times I can't see past realistic games. However I adore star wars and loved GC so I know will enjoy FS. smile

Yup, thats what I would like to assume.

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I am sure its not that risky..lol. Heres is a wiki on it, in the pistures its the blocks on the outside of the tank.

Re: Star Destroyer! Yee-haa!

I agree PR is a good mod to look to for Teamwork and believe me we have, we are firendly with the PR Dev's and they have some very clever systems.

I would just like to rid your fears once more and basically say withering fire is a system more to benefit the Team as a whole so that NO ONE, is useless everyone can at LEAST do something, i mean our sniper rifles, you may have to fire off like 3-5 shots from your sniper rifle to take 1-2% of damage off an AT-ST but at least he can do something.

it's not to take away from the specialised classes as they will always win outright as the class of choice for XXX situation, it's simply to add an abiity to teh other classes and make it theoretically possible for groups of sustained fire to do some damage (especially in weak points).

basicaly th way it works is it subconciously gets people all firing on the same targets because every shot counts towards it's destruction.

the more people sticking together the chances of your survival increase dramatically. those who go lone wolf have less of a chance of survivng (please note there is a difference between survivng and being usefull) e.g. yuo can be a lone wolf and be usefull, by sniping your targets, placeing radar beacons, scouting enemy lcaltions and positions, relaying info to your team meates, sabotaging enemy vehicles. Stealing a vehicle (AT-St's curently are like GOLD dust atm, you can drastically shift the balance of power by obtaining (and maintaining read: fixing repairing) keeping them alive.

these are usfull lone wolf options. but your chance of surviing attacks are significantly decreased both on foot and in vehicles if you do not team up with fellow players.

It's so far a game dynamic that is woking beutifully. although the real test will come when we get an open beta going.

I'll be curious to see what you do with it. Repair ship, perhaps? Fire ship to run into enemy cruisers and blow up? Objective?

we'll (or better: you) just have to wait and see. hoping its in a future update
i first was scepic of the WF system, coming with most of the arguments give by fans here. but i must say it really works great. you dont feel useless anymore just because you use kit A and problem B pops up.

Re: Star Destroyer! Yee-haa!

I must say a fantastic update. I love the SD and the Gallofree. It really hits the Star Wars nerve and I have to stop myself from drooling.

I was a bit sceptic at the Withering Fire concept at first as well, but seeing it explained here more throughly I must say it can really work.

There is nothing worse then equiping the wrong kit for the wrong situation. Laying down fire on a AT-ST will atleast make them nervous. If it works and I strongly believe it will, the concept would truely be on of the first to promote teamplay.

Keep the updates coming. :-)
