Topic: Question about Sentinel-Class Lander

Will the Sentinel be able to carry small vehicles like speederbikes or will it be a troop only transport?
If its troop only, would it be possible to make one that could carry vehicles? I remember reading somewhere that it can carry a maximum of 12 Compact assualt vehicles or 36 speeder bikes. I realize thats alot of vehicles, but maybe making it so that it can carry maybe 3 CAVs or similar vehicles would help with Omaha Beach-style maps. Or it could be made so that the regular version carrys 6 speeder bikes. I realize this would probably not be worth the trouble, but it would be useful if a map is based around an aerial invasion. Oh and the maximum vehicles thing is a congiuration that has the seats removed. You could have the seats in the back of the lander and the speeders face the ramps, or put the CAVs in the back and the seats on the sides.

Re: Question about Sentinel-Class Lander

Can all 64 rebel and imperial players on the map run onto the sentinel lander and have a party in flight like we did on GC? cool In another game we did that with the lambda too. It is funny to see a bunch of rebels and imperials packed inside the lambda while it is flying around.

Heh, I'm not sure if it'll be able to do that, but I can tell you that we do have plans to have this craft carry vehicles within it's cargo bay for deployment, most likely a few Speederbikes. The amount of people the ship will carry may be limited by the max number of passenger slots we can alocate to a ship, unless we can just have them all free standing on board while the ship is in motion.

Another interesting aspect of this vessel will be it's possible use as a mobile command center, and as an important and dynamic target for the enemy to take out. If it can land anywhere on a map, and can spawn units and vehicles it will have to be dealt with.

Even more interesting could be the possibility of having an enemy be able to hijack this craft and use it for their own faction. Obviously with an asset this valuable if we did decide to implement that element of gameplay we'd have to make it quite hard to take over. I'd see the enemy having to make it to the vessel's cockpit area, and having to stay there long enough to convert it almost like a standard map CP. The infiltrator would then have to hold off the crew and units spawning in until the ship became converted. This would introduce some excellent close quarters fighting which was something I had in mind while designing her interior.

Basically there are near limitless possibilities for the way we could use this ship.

Re: Question about Sentinel-Class Lander

I remember hearing from the BF2 devs a long time ago about their new adjustable terrain material type that allows for different speeds of impact to give more or less damage to a player than other material types at the same impact speed. If you could give all the interior walls of the ship a very soft impact rating it would allow for people to freestand inside of the ship while in flight like they did in GC, unlike the very hard surfaces of the BF 2 and 2142 which are designed for easy roadkills and would kill any freestanders.

Re: Question about Sentinel-Class Lander

That is awsome, yes lol, and imagine a team of rebels sneaking on board  and trying to take control of the ship while it is in flight. One of the rebels might shoot the imperial pilot and take over the controls to avoid crashing while the other commandos hold off the suprised imperial passengers on board from retaking the deck.

Re: Question about Sentinel-Class Lander

lol I love how GD used a flying house for the demonstration. Good stuff. smile
