Topic: "Flag By Flag" Game Mode??

I have read in the forums that you have some awesome plans for different gamemodes and I am really looking forward to trying them out cool

However, for longevity of the mod I am sure that you will also be sticking to the tried and tested "Capture CPs on the map" - i.e. the normal BF2142 game mode

Although hugely successful one draw back of this game-mode is the fact that some people rush to the back, capture the rear CPs and any feeling of a "war" is lost as the "frontline" turns in to lots of uncoordinated battles around different CPs - which distracts from the team work

Although these types of games ARE immense fun on a densely populated server I think it can be useful (and completely change the dynamic of the game) by introducing a FLAG BY FLAG mode, such as that used in the BF2142 Clan Mod: http://www.bf2142.se/clanmod/

Basically this mode forces each team to assault and capture the flags IN ORDER - nearest first and so on

This is especially effective on the maps where there is one team attacking and one team defending (Camp Gibraltar, Fall Of Berlin etc.)

The attacking team need to cap the nearest CP to their base before moving on - if the defenders re-cap it (or get it grey) the attackers have to go back and re-take it before moving on

This results in a clear "Front Line" (which moves as the map progresses) and it certainly encourages teamwork and coordination (another key factor in ensuring the longevity of FIRST STRIKE after release IMHO)

This game mode really lends itself to an IMPERIAL Invasion of a planet that the REBELS need to defend or a REBEL attack on a startegic asset **cough** Death Star **cough** wink

The other big advantage of this type of gamemode is that you can quite easily play small sided games (2v2+) so it is ideal for getting servers started - when the server is populated enough the server admin could switch it to the "normal assault mode" or to one of your new game modes yikes

Got to admit I like the idea, i seam to remember the first unreal tornament had a similar mode of gameplay.

Re: "Flag By Flag" Game Mode??

the way the whole gameplay has been set up regarding withering fire and some of our gadgets etc, are all designed to encourage group on group fighting.

this doesn't stop a lone warrior capping a rear flag, bu in theory there should be LESS flag hopping and more group on group fighting in your regular 2142 of BF2 match.

Re: "Flag By Flag" Game Mode??

UT2K3 also has this in the form of Onslaught.

Bases are linked together and you can only attack a base which is connected to one that you have.

Planetside has something like this as well.

BF2142 Has something simmilar in the Supply Line maps in the Booster Pack.

Could the code for the Supply Line mode be changed to have 2 or 3 tiers of bases?   IE an Outer wall of bases that can always be captured and then Inner bases that require the outer base attached to it to be captured for you to take.

Re: "Flag By Flag" Game Mode??

I fully support a system of capturing one flag or group of control points at a time. Makes game-play far better, in my opinion. I'd also like to see experimentation with a system where you have to remain at a control point to keep controlling it, and leaving it would make it go back to grey.

Re: "Flag By Flag" Game Mode??

Jedi Academy has a gameplaymode like you mentioned aswell.
It's called "Siege", would be great to see something familiar to that smile
