Re: World in Conflict

The open beta is out, and is as awesome as the closed beta. And yes, Ground Control was downright awesome. Although MP Ground Control was more intense, and SP GC was better, too, because you only got one batch of units and they grew in experience from mission to mission.

Don't compare this to Company of Heroes. It's more akin to Sudden Strike, Code Name Panzer, etc. Or, for a better comparison, Ground Control.

The single-player campaign looks like it'll have a good, emotional, realistic plot, but the game-play doesn't look too special (I've been spoiled by the brilliant, creative single-player campaigns of Empires: DOTW). I'll play through it regardlessly, though.

Servers seem to be setup for 8 v 8, so generally you get 2 of each class on each map, which is awesome cos it generally forces teamplay if you want to be successful, as you have to capture outposts.

Actually, for a team to be effective you need to have more Infantry and Armour classes than Air and Support classes. For example 1 Air, 1 Support, 3 Infantry and 2 Armour. Support and Air are support classes, like the Sniper in the BF series, so a team made up of them can't win.

Re: World in Conflict

It looks just cool for an RTS game. I'm downloading the Open Beta with BitTorrent since yesterday.

Re: World in Conflict

that is an awesome game, how you can call arty on an area, then your troops can use the craters for cover!

Ditto for World in Conflict. Ground deformation is a pretty recent addition, actually, and it came as a welcome surprise. The fact that ground couldn't be manipulated was one of my bigger pet peeves with the game, especially since it promised that everything would be destroyable.
