Topic: another jolt from Harrys Pez Dispenser of ideas

Alot of people have mentioned shields, ion cannons, "systems" and repairs.

Ion cannons effect only shields and systems, once the shields are dwon theres only a few shots till systems are down as well. Everyone know that already, so moving on...

On a transport,  could there be multiple repair areas, eg: if your sheilds get dropped by too many ion blasts, you go to a certain panel and repair, only the shields get repaired, or your systems took some damage after your shields dropped, and you've stopped dead in space, you head to the system console and start repairing, get systems up, head over to shields repair.

When one of these (shields/systems) goes down, the corresponding station blows up, doing damage to people close, like if you were atttempting to slow the damage to the systems. Also the shield station could be used to "set shields" to standard, forward, reverse ( dbl front, dbl rear)

it would be a balance and I know someone will say, "but a full pack on engineers will make it indestructable."

Wrong. if you make it so you can only fix the damage when its completely broken, or have the shield "heal" rate as part of the % of damage done. more shield damage, less shield heal. You're not powering up the shields, you're repairing the circuts that DO.

If your ships movement is modified by the systems health, as in the lower the health, the lower the max speed, coupled with a limited amout of fixes for the engineer (ammo for the tool box, u only have so many spare parts) and you've got a nice stressful shipboard situation.

Rebel fighters would do most of this on auto, if a bit slow, cause they get by with a little help from their droids(breaks out into beatles' tribute).

Yah, If I hav my way, I'd have a mexican schoolbus ISD (16 players, 1 vehicle) getting bombed back into the pre-republic, with panels exploding all around, engineers franticly repairing the bridge and endless noobs pulling the kamikaze a wing routine, with laser fight to put Pink Floyd to shame.

ah well back to work

I like, I like.  Maybe not only multiple repair areas byt multiple attack areas, like the Hardpoint system in Empire At War.  For example, using topredoes or suicide A-Wings (YAY!) on the shield generators would take out the shields while doing the same to the laser batteries would lessen the ship's ability to defend itself.

Yes, I like this as well. It will add a new element of team play that I don't think we've seen. Also it may satisfy some of those sim lovers out there too. And I would LOVE to see the damage on the bridges, etc. too.

Re: another jolt from Harrys Pez Dispenser of ideas

Don't get too into it, cause this is the first my teams heard of it too, and it might just end up being one of those discarded ideas. I was just thinking about the code for the material types, how hitting certain things does damage, penetration, blah. In space there has to be compensation for the lack of personal combat, IM(a)HO, with respect to the character classes. another horrible idea, stacking on top of this is to have additional bonuses attached to certain classes. For example. IF they have 2 people flying in a ywing, and IF that person 2nd person gets to use the missiles/torpedoes, depending on the class he/she would get: better Accuracy, longer endurance(missile burn time), bigger blast radius... aw forget it horrible idea.

But other classes in other than weapon positions could bolster the pilots effectiveness. having a sniper in the astronav would shrink your radar profile, or with spec ops you get more effective radar. Assault would track missiles on radar. probably too much to do..

Having some sort of place for everyone in a space battle is the major point im getting at.

Re: another jolt from Harrys Pez Dispenser of ideas

On a BlackHawk when your repairing it the chances are you need to move your spanner up down right or left to get it to work on the affected area. So yes its possible I would say as those areas are obviously coded in for certain hit areas.

Re: another jolt from Harrys Pez Dispenser of ideas

Sounds good. It would be pretty cool to be able to disable different parts from ships, like the engine or the weapon systems etc. Then you could just take your time with your target.. It would be a nasty feeling when your systems go down. And in non space battles it would bring some variety to being shot down, when your engine gets blown off and gravity takes over.. phheeeuuuuhhh! Re: another jolt from Harrys Pez Dispenser of ideas

Well I suppose that woud be possible. Say for larger transpor ships have each turrent or blaster programed as an AA implacement and that way it can be destroyed.
