Adding to the long list of things banned by Communists, we've gotten to... Reincarnation!
It is now forbidden by Chinese law to reincarnate without authorization within the borders of Chinese-occupied Tibet. It also illegal to declare that a given individual is reincarnated.
This quickly becomes less funny when you realize the reasons for the new law: Tibetan Buddhists are now unable to designate reincarnations of Dalai Lama, their spiritual leader... without 'state authorization'.
Since the 12th century, Tibetan Buddhists have believed that reincarnated important religious leaders, known as tulkus, can be identified in young boys. Because tulkus have a large influence in the Himalayan region, the Chinese government has frequently sought to control the process of identifying the boys. The new regulations, which go into effect September 1, 2007, will make it illegal to identify the child reincarnation of the Dalai Lama without the approval of Chinese authorities.
Now, I'm no big fan of religion myself, but this... this just strains belief. What's next, a ban on going to Hell or Heaven?
