I'm not against religion itself. In fact, religion is probably the single thing that kept humanity from mass chaos and anarchy during our early, pregovernment era. Religion tells us what's right and what's wrong, and attaches eternal consequences to doing the wrong things. Most religions teach peace and forgiveness. Unfortunately, some people take religion too far, with holy wars, hate, and using religion as a shield for their own bigotry.
Examples of this include the Israeli-Palestinian conflict which, although caused by many things, is believed to primarily be about the major difference between the Koran and the Bible, which is that in the Bible Abraham was asked to sacrifice Isaac, whose descendants are the Jews, while in the Koran, Ishmael was the one who was supposed to be the one sacrificed. His descendants are, you guessed it, the Muslims. They were each supposedly promised Israel, the promised land.
Another example is the anti-gay stance adopted by many who use the bible as an excuse to hate others.
I'm sure that I could go on and on about this topic, but it's 6:11 in the morning, and I need to go to sleep.
