I'm currently trying to get more people to read John Marsden. He's an excellent Australian author and schoolteacher who wrote some splendid books in his time. I don't know if he's still active as an author. The appeal of Marsden's books is that they're very detailed when it comes to emotions and psychology, rather than focusing on action and describing what happens in the story. In the unlikely event that anyone here have read Ambjørnsen's books on the mentally ill Elling, many of Marsden's books are very similar in style. He seems to have a lot of insight into psychology and teens' minds, and this really helps his books.
I recommend the Tomorrow Series as well as So Much to Tell You (which by the way is very short). The first is a series of guerilla warfare movies inspired by the movie Red Dawn, while the second is a novel about a traumatized girl who's been forced to attend a boarding school in a hope that the 'normality' there will make her start talking again. Other than that, amidst the children's books there are some promising titles such as Letters from the Inside.
