Topic: Props to the designers

Congrats to the designers (and all the other devs), you guys really sound on the ball from the preview on the frontpage.

When playing BF2142 it just feels like its lost some of the magic that BF1942 had where you had that kind of chaos that felt very atmospheric. Bf2142 vanilla just seems sterile compared to it, instead of battleships of the coast bombarding salvos of high explosive onto maps (usually well designed to strategically limit the key areas they could easily hit, and also pretty vulnerable to torp bombers and coastal guns), you have guys sitting in an invincible titan with a birds eye view of half the battle, and able to spam rapid fire bomblets everywhere.

Also instead of having lots of planes dogfighting all over with machine guns, the roar of their engines, and flak exploding everywhere like BF1942, you just have a couple of gunships sneaking silently around looking to stab their adversaries in the back with an instant death volley of homing missiles, or the same from the ground.

in bf2142 Every infantry fight is also centred on the flag since everyone is just podding right onto it. Whats the point of even having bases? In bf1942 on big 48 or 64 peep servers  you have lots of people defending flags actually built like bases, useful bunkers, trenches, all well manned. Teams assaulting would have to bring in tanks, lay down lots of firepower and slowly grind down the defenders. In 2142 big battles just become a clusterfuck with people podding in randomly every 10 seconds. People then just give up and all start sniping, or jump in a titan turret position. GC had a really good map that captured this also, the hoth map, outside the rebel bases there were 3 bases and a large trench system, it could get pretty good out there with a lot of people of the server (sadly didnt happen too often).

BTW you should also consider limiting snipers (either in numbers or effectiveness), nothing tanks a FPS game quicker when half a team goes sniper, especially a FPS game thats supposed to be an open battlefield like the BF series.

Anyways, you guys really seem to have a great vision for the game, like DICE's original one for BF1942 that have such a great spark, that seems to have been lost.

Aye, 1942 had a better atmosphere for battles, in a way... You had this feeling that you were really attacking something. Hoth like you mentioned was a perfect example of "Attacking the lines" with the other side defending. You can tell that i'm happy that the devs are trying to lure people into large scale battles, something i miss from the old days!

Well, Space currently is an absolte blast to play with 20 people, so we all are dribbling waiting for a 50+ player server to join. Certainly will be pretty epic big_smile
