I know by now - that I will encounter problems with the tree shadows...
My PC have been rendering all day..For about 9 hours --..-.--.-..-...-.-.----.-.--.-.

As I've stated before:

DO NOT RENDER LIGHTMAPS WITH *ANY* FS TREES ON THE MAP!!!

Remove them all before rendering. Its just a waste of time, sorry. There is something wrong and we dont know what. Does the Max exporter not support proper vegitation exports? Did we do something wrong? Dont know, but what we do know is this:

- Our trees doesnt render a shadow properly due to low poly planes (this is a given)
- Our trees make the editor take an abnormal amount of time to render: normal BF2 and BF2142 does NOT do this

And that's that. No solution hmm

Endor is a hackjob for tree shadows, using BF2 oaks instead for a generic ground coverage. This doesnt work well with sparse density though.

Re: Nesmazda

I don't think trees normally receive shadows.. like statics does.
Thats why tress have their own separate color channel in the editor.

They cast shadows - But don't receive shadows.
The shadows are the game engine shadows -
They are not suppose to have their own shadow texture on them.

(i think about it) roll

I'm not gonna let go before I have tried creating my own trees...
working on that now...:/

Re: Nesmazda

You're right, they dont recieve shadows, they only cast them on objects/terrain. That has little to do with the issue at hand though.

You can do a simple comparison: place like 2000 of our trees on a new terrain. Try to render terrain lightmaps. It'll take hours upon hours, as if it freeze at the beginning of each tree it try to shadow. Do the same with BF2 trees (which have 100x more polygons). They will render in like 10 minutes (depending on size of terrain of course).

If you can make it work fast without the rendering engine appearing frozen, I'd congratulate you smile
It wouldnt surprise me the slightest if we've missed some stupid variable sad

I think EA are using a program called Speed tree though...
But it's licensed to heaven and beound
