Topic: Collision Avoidance System?

I have noticed that a lot of the dogfights end with collisions.
Sometimes between enemies, sometimes between allies.

Due to the narrow FOV and 2D radar it is very possible for two spacecrafts to collide without even seeing each other, and even if you do it is often too late to avoid the crash.

I think gameplay would improve a lot if you somehow could prevent fighter collisions, or at least reduce the damage taken significantly.

Some might think that it is not very realistic, but neither is the very restricted view the pilots currently have.

Re: Collision Avoidance System?

Well I cant think of any system that would avoid crashes besides being able to fly through fighters and that would be retarded.

i think if you ram someone aka you guys are heading at each other and didn't kill each other with laser's then you both should blow up.  Alot of times ive seen the enemy get away.

Yes, that would look stupid.
But they could just "bounce" off each other, maybe taking 25% damage.
Other vehicles in BF2142 can survive hitting each other, so it must be technically possible.

Re: Collision Avoidance System?

All I know is when I'm a TIE and have two people chasing after me I do loopy motions and they collide and I laugh XD

The raming issue is a fault of the scenario and your/the other guys skill/intelligence (most of the time). I can say from experience that most of the rams resulted from doing loops after an enemy when a teammate was doing the same so it was my fault and his to not realize that we could so easily crash into each other.

Re: Collision Avoidance System?

Most of my collisions are from two tailing groups that cross each other, and either the predators or the prey hit each other out of nowhere. I've also faced death when doing bombing runs on enemy ships and another predator/prey group flies past, and I get caught by one of them (And punished for doing my job.). Of course, also the two tailing one, etc.

I've also bounced off ships before. Like flying at a fellow X-wing I couldn't turn in time and skidded right off him, taking a minor amount of damnage.

Although it is realistic, I'd just prefer a better way to check my 3-d surroundings.

Comon men. There's a whole bunch of them right at the top of that hill waiting for you to shoot at them. So forward and up boys! Let's get this done.

There are times when you do bounce off a fellow fighter (mostly happens when 2 tie fighters are trailing an xwing and their wings knock against each other) ... it just all depends on how fast you hit each other.

Other than that , just try not to all swarm around 1 fighter. Its your own fault i think. I try not to go after some-elses target unless it looks like they need help, or request it.
