Topic: 'Squad up', everyone! [Now with picture!]

The last few rounds I played I had to tell people to 'squad up' several times each round, with little or no response. It's getting on my nerves, so I'm making this thread to try to convince people that lone-wolfing is not the way to go in First Strike.

First of all, when enough people join a squad, your squad leader gets the ability to scan your area and set up spawn beacons, both of which are very useful abilities. He also deploys blaster turrets, which pack a nasty punch, especially when covered by deflector shields. All it takes for these things to start appearing on the battlefield near you is for a couple more people to join a squad.

Secondly, when you join a squad and you and your fellow players follow orders and stick together, the fights become far more concentrated, and as a result, firefights become more intense.

Thirdly, it allows your team to coordinate defense and attack. For example, early on in the Mos Espa map, there is a control point in the south-west part of the city guarding it against intrusion, but no spawn point in the southeast, making it very easy for the Imperials to flank east to get into the town. More on that in the guide I plan to write. See pic below for now:

As a side note, I'm still very strongly in favor of servers that kick players who don't squad up.

safe-keeper i agree with you 110% people that don't squad up are going to get frustrated because they are getting owned by the guys that are more organized, things arn't as fun, and yes what you said about the more intense  firefights is so true because if everyone is just scattered accross the map going out on their own time things arnt very intense and that equals not-the-best firefights. and about the servers kicking people that don't squad up, i am on the same side with you i think it should become a reality.

Exactly. In Project Reality, while there are admittedly lone wolves and a certain need for infantry acting on its own (snipers, for example), lots of times infantry comes in packs. When I see a group of six people move down a road together, I think 'squad' instinctively. FS actually does a surprisingly decent job at 'herding' players through various means into groups, on some maps more than other, but still I feel squadding up is the way to go.

problem is, even if they DO squad up, they arent gunna listen and still can go lone wolf, thats the whole issue

Yeah, squads are the ONLY way to go.I do wish, however, that more SL's stayed with their troops and that squads travelled in a group. Too often its disjointed and all the mates are all over the place.
