Throughout the course of a development, textures originally made for a mod are usually redone, remade, and replaced so that the overall graphical quality continues to improve. So I'm sure as the mod continues to develop, the textures on many common objects and ships will continue to be revised and will look even more awesome. 
As far as the models, when developing for the Battlefield series of games you have a certain poly count that you have to shoot for, which is specific to what kind of object you're modeling. There's not really any ways to make models more detailed without exceeding the recommended polycounts for each specific type of model. That said, I'm sure that there will be optimization of existing models, which although will not make them look significantly more detailed, will indeed improve performance even more.
