Topic: Additional pilot classes for space maps
This was brought up in another thread, but I'd like to post it in the suggestion forum as well. I think it would be cool to have a space map equivalent to the officer class.
This could be in the form of a "squadron leader" class. The only person who could spawn as one would be a squad leader, and that squad leader would get some neat special abilities; not sure what yet.
I was thinking, perhaps a player who is a squadron leader could have a large fightercraft repair effect radius around his craft. This would encourage squadrons of fighters to fly together "covering" their leader as they head off to battle. Damaged squad mates could track down their squadron leader, fly alongside to get healed, and the leader gets repair points. There's incentive for both players involved in the transaction.
I know this is not "super realism" but neither is hovering near the freighter to get repairs. More importantly, I think it's a very nifty game mechanic to indirectly encourage teamplay in space maps. You'd have more pairings of fighters flying cover for the lead craft, and it definitely would be a GREAT gameplay mechanic for the infamous and inevitable Death Star Trench Run map.
