Can't you code a vehicle launcher, much like the assault pods in vanilla 2142, that will launch non-droid fighters? As in, you're no longer linked to the ship that launched you and will die if shot down. While it doesn't allow for moving around in hangars, it does allow moving capital ships to launch fighters.

Conceivable? Already thought of?

Nope. It has exterior racks that TIE Fighters are docked to.
