Topic: Why BF2142?

Why did the devs decide to mod BF2142, and not a game specifically made for modding, like Unreal Tournament 2004?
I mean the advantages of UT2004 over BF2142 are endless; vehicles don't kill you cos they lag when you sit on them, lack of buggy netcode, lack of buggy code, very little hardcoding, etc.

from what I know (which isn't much) you could port over to ut2004 without too much of a hassle I think... At least the models wouldn't have to be redone tongue
but most of teh coding would have to modified at the very least

Besides, I'm sure the devs were well aware of the other modding platforms available to them (or at least I hope they were hmm)

i believe there even was an UT2004 star wars mod back then, which of course sucked and eventually died.

UT is a completely different kind of game, not even the same genre imao

A mod like FS would NEVER work on the UT platform

theres a SW mod coming for hl2, and thats an EXTREMELY easy engine to mod, just you can't get the big maps like in 2142.

LOL genre doesn't matter since the UT engine is so flexible. Heck you could make RTS with it. People have made RPG's and Racing games with it. And the genre is not that different as they're both FPS's and UT2004 does have onslaught (and vehicle CTF), which is alot like conquest. OH and they have Assault which is basically a push map.

Anyway, FS could totally work UT2004 Engine, and then be easily ported over to UT3 eventually.

I'm still waiting for a dev to comment though big_smile
