Topic: Ship to Ship Weapons Data

I started a local server to test how much damage each weapon does against various targets and the range of each weapon. On the local server, I was able to conclude that torpedoes on Taloraan had an 1800 meter range with damage drop-off if fired beyond 1000m.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to apply in multiplayer servers and I often need to be right on top of an enemy capital ship for the torpedoes to register a hit.

Can anyone explain this discrepancy? I know there's a bug where damage doesn't register for some shots and does for others, but this seems like something different.

For me I allways get a hit with a torpedo if I fire accurately.

maybe packet loss....but I have a good ping on the typical wolf server everyone plays on. Then again, the time I tested this, I might have been on a server where my ping was over 150.

In any event, trust me when I say, torpedoes definitely have a max range...unless there is something very wonky between my computer/ connection and this mod. On Escape from Hoth, the 60 weaker torpedoes the tie bomber gets will detonate before hitting the enemy cap ships hull if the target is over 1000 meters. Again however, I have experienced situations on multiplayer servers where the range seems to be less.

Re: Ship to Ship Weapons Data

i think the range is about 800 meters

about registering a hit:
this is definitely a lag thingy! you have to keep an eye on your ping, if your ping is under 50ms, then you can shoot like in singleplayer (so with no change to normal game style), if your ping is above 100 you should start to lead your target, so you actually might not see that you hit, but the game will register a hit

so it looks for the others like you make a perfect shot, while it looks for you like you miss!!

about the range of the torpedoes in singleplayer: thats new to me O.o

Re: Ship to Ship Weapons Data

The torpedos do indeed have a max range, this is also reflected in the damage they do. If you fire at long range and aim well you'll hit your target, but will do less damage than if you wait until you enter optimum range to fire off your torps. Optimum fire range is less than 1000 meters if I remember rightly. Wait until then to fire and you'll do the maximum possible damage with that weapon.

You should however still register hits over 1000 meters, I think the max range is around 1800 ( though don't quote me on that) , you just do less damage.

Yea I know they have a max range, I should have said if I fire accurately and within range.

Re: Ship to Ship Weapons Data

well, on public servers (or better: on the public server) i see new players shooting with torpedoes and lasers from less than 1800 meters but more away than 1000 meters and their torpedoes show a premature explosion, ill try to do that myself soon to give you an clarified answer
