Topic: Attack Droid

Regarding the droid the Imperials get one of in the course of a round on Endor, I find it fun, but rather difficult to use do to the wonky controls. I figured I'd share some constructive comments.

1- the droid has VERY limited vertical aiming capability. If the enemy is on anything but a slight incline or decline, the droid can't target them.

2- The droid is apparently bound to aircraft controls, but I can't seem to map it to WASD on the keyboard, and it only accepts joystick and mouse input. Unfortunately, the joystick can't be used exclusively since the mouse is what allows you to aim via freelook, creating an awkward joystick and mouse control style unless I just want to use the mouse for movement. Doing this, the droid just moves ever forward, unable to stop, move backward, or strafe (unless I use the joystick), changing direction only based on where I aim the mouse. Can this be adjusted?

3- this is just a question. I thought I saw someone do it once...can the droid be made to hover higher off the ground? If not, this would be a nice feature to add.

Re: Attack Droid

1: That would be the probe droid. And if it could look up and down any more it would be unstopable, its allready extremely powerfull against infantry.

2:?

3: What you saw was probably the droid coming back to ground level after being up in the ewok village.

2: This i know, and i would like to see changed. The LOOK controls are bound to the mouse, but the move/turn controls are bound to the joystick. I would prefer if i could get it all onto the joystick, like the hat controls looking or something...i just have no way of holding/turning a joystick, also controlling throttle in a separate button, while holding the mouse to look. I could if i have 3 arms, but i don't for some odd reason.

I feel its balanced by the fact that the imperials get only one per round. Also, I haven't tested to determine how much damage the droid does, but it fires in semi-auto and still takes at least 3-4 hits to kill an infantryman, while your being pounded by an infantryman full auto...and all the while trying to aim while attempting to stabilize the droid using awkward controls. The only thing that saves the droid's usefulness is the significant beating it can take. Pound for pound, yes it is better than your average infantryman, but not incredibly so. The walker is a far bigger threat. Assuming average skill for all players involved, 2 infantry versus droid = dead droid.

Also, I plan to test it, but it seems that the droid has a very hard time killing infantry on speeders. As a regular infantryman I kill them easily. While using the droid, I was up to successful hit #7 before my opponent on the speeder finally plowed into a tree and killed himself.

I REALLY don't think increasing the droid's ability to look up and down is going to unbalance the thing.

I think you're right there. It was by Ewok village.

They don't. It's a widespread misconception that they do. Not only do probots respawn, but I also swear I saw two probots active at the same time in the Imperial Outpost once.

The probot is regarded as too powerful, as it can take way too much damage and has a pretty powerful weapon. In the hands of inexperienced players, it may not be too dangerous, but if a vet gets his hands on it and keeps it repaired, it's a nightmare. It's been suggested that it be given far less hit points as well as a scanner with a longer range, in order to make it a probe droid, as opposed to a combat droid.

Re: Attack Droid

2 probe droids?!!! now thats scary...

Re: Attack Droid

Yeah...i hate it for 3 things:
#1: It's lasers are too powerful! hamsters...it's like getting shot at by a walker! Tone down those hit points...
#2: Too much armor...i went at it with a speeder bike, EMP grenades, and a mortar launcher. No Effect.
#3: Duh...controls. As i mentioned, i can't use my throttle, joystick and mouse at the same time.
