Re: Make a more gritty StarWars mod?

Two words: Easter Eggs.
Just funny little things you can find in the game if you look hard enough that are just hidden in random places...always fun to find.

Re: Make a more gritty StarWars mod?

I want both. The Muzzle flashes in this mod are kinda toned down and don't show the power of the weapon your shooting. Also in the third person there is no Muzzle flash at all. Not even a white one as you stated there was in the movies.

Also the impact effects are way to BF2142ish. They need to be all new like the hit effects for shooting dirt are. The ones for shooting metal are still the old BF ones, and they don't fit the style of the newer effects. Also there should be sand/dust thats kicked up from the AT-ST, as well as when a speeder bike, or land speeder goes past you. last but not least if you could make it so the screen shakes when a walker moves by, and when a big explosion happens it would help out the mod a lot, same would go for those tread run Rebel tanks you plan on adding into the mod.

I'm just looking for ways to give the mod that extra bit of wow factor without taxing the engine, or peoples hardware too much. Check out a BF2 mod called FH2 for what I'm talking about. They are a realism mod yes but there is no reason we can't do some of the things they did with this mod. Suppression works in that game but in this a heavy Blaster can't pin anybody down, and people tend to run into the bolts almost like lambs to the meat grinder.

I just want the mod to feel more real and less game like. When you play most modern games your sucked into the moment, and the game world. Look at games like Half-Life2, and COD:4 they pull you into the game and make you fear every weapon that gets pointed at you. It's a great feeling to play a online game that makes you run for cover when you get shot at. We do this anyway ingame so to give the player more reason to do so is not a bad thing right?

Re: Make a more gritty StarWars mod?

I think battle sounds in the background would help kind of like what CoD4 does.  If nobody is in the server you still hear gunshots in the background.

Re: Make a more gritty StarWars mod?

I don't like background sounds because they aren't really happening, they're fake. I like the sounds when the battle is ACTUALLY happening, so maybe the explosions/weapons could be heard from a long distance, so you could hear the battle happening around you, and it's for real.

Anyways...I think the screen shake isn't a bad idea, but you know something really cool that i'm almost 100% sure is completely impossible to do? If you get hit by a car or by a walker leg, maybe you could get knocked over if it's not enough to kill you. lol...

COD4 is a MUCH different game; it takes place on small battlefield, with (hopefully) no more than 10-15 people a side, and the battlefield is not surrounded by open space, as it often is in BF maps.
There for you can imagine that are other similiar battles going on in the areas surrounding the map, which is what you hear.

That said, I really do like the ambient sounds in COD4, for example, in Crash, when you into the tall building (you know the one where everyone snipes from) you can hear the building creaking, very eerie in a 1v1.

Yes thats my point! We have the BF2142 engine we should not squander what it can do just for the sake of better FPS rates. In HF2 for BF2 when your high in the watch towers you can hear the wind blowing, and when you see a tank drive by you see the dust from the treads kicked up for a good distance away. It adds a more realistic feel to it. Also if the developers could muddy up the AT-ST foot pads a bit and give it that more I was used in combat look it would also help the mod out alot.

The Storm Troopers in the mod have this look and they are vary nice on the screen to look at because you can see they have been in some combat, or in the field for a while. Yet the Rebels don't look that way at all. Also the guns don't have this look ether. It's the one thing EA did right in BF2 was that the feet, and weapons/vehicles all had the we are used for warfare look to them. Not a hot off the factory just come off the the assembly lines look we have ingame right now for most of our stuff.

Re: Make a more gritty StarWars mod?

Two words for you from episode 4.......Carbon Scoring. I did a search of the entire forum and was suprised that no ones ever mentioned it. I really would like to see that after all BF2 and 2142 all have bullet holes yet there is no lag issue in those games.

To be frank and an arrogant arse I dont want to hear any opinions from any one as to why there should not be any in the game, its not open to debate, with no carbon scoring the game isnt Star Wars.
