Sure. I use the mouse at very long range to shoot precisely. I use my joystick in closer engagements.
You don't get scanners like X-wing alliance, but every enemy in front of you should get bracketed and you can follow them.
You won't get your targeting computer making firing solutions for you, so you'll have to use leading fire and try figure it out for yourself.
If you're unsure of a shot- its best to undershoot and shoot behind him than in front. Shooting in front of him will just let him know you're on to him, where as if your shots go behind, you can sweep them forward onto him.
And its a lot easier taking someone out from behind!
