Re: Endor Probe Droid

I'm sure forum memebers are sick of us saying this but engine limitations....

When you use the droid launcher you enter a vehicle, which you can't exit. Why because we don't want people to use droids as transport vehicles. If we had a way to make players exit at the building we would.

Re: Endor Probe Droid

You guys seem to be missing the point here. We have found a way for you to play as the Probe Droid. Now you can whinge on all you like about why you die when the droid dies, or go on about the ins and outs of how the droid operation building works, do you remote control the droid from there? Do you just activate the droid and then simply become the droid for the remainder of that life? It doesn't really matter. The whole point is that you can play as the Probe Droid, so just be thankful for that and move on.

Re: Endor Probe Droid

Personally, even if you *could* make it exit-able at the console, I think that's a bad gameplay choice since the first player to get in there has a free killing machine the entire round.

Re: Endor Probe Droid

Yea all the player would do is take the droid - kill - bail to a safe location - wait for droid respawn.........

Re: Endor Probe Droid

Free killing machine?  All it has is a single slow blaster that has maybe 30 degrees of movement.  Now if you were to add a melee attack, such as swipe or stab (all those arms and they're not even used...) then maybe it could be considered lethal.

Re: Endor Probe Droid

Ty is 100% correct.  As we have experienced in work on previous mods, the droid becomes a literal "free ride" for whomever is in it.  They fly about accruing points yet never actually being killed, which actually tends to annoy players on a sort of primeval level.  As such having a "neural-electrical control feedback overload" killing the operator is a decent solution to the problem.

There is no "teleport script" that'll work to put you back at the console because we can't make you pop out of the vehicle on death.  And even if we could (or if you exited the vehicle) then the teleportation power we do have is line-of-sight only.  This means that you would be teleported as far as the first obstacle between you and the console (most likely the outter wall of the building).  That wouldn't be much good either.

Remote control projectiles (like tv camera missiles) also don't work because, while we can get them to float about we cannot weld firearms onto them, meaning the blasters would no longer work.

So, with all the inherent limitations of the engine here, there isn't really too much option on what to do.  The droid is just an extra, an easter egg almost that you can use if you so desire.  As such, seeing as there is nothing more we can really do (other than fix the lack of decent lateral rotation control) the droid will be staying as-is.
