Topic: Espionage Class

You know the Bothans, right?  The ever cunning spies of the rebellion?
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bothan

And the lesser known spies of the Empire?  Okay, so I've no idea who they are or what they look like.   Maybe like the guy in this link...  http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Internal … ion_Bureau

The true spies are here - http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial … telligence

Well, I think it would be a great addition to have spies (Either called the Spy, Reconnaissance, or Espionage Class) in First Strike.  They could be able to listen to enemy transmissions, be silent killers, be artillery spotters instead of troopers, and other things.  Please post ideas.

And if you do add spies, make the Imp spy like the guy in that image.  I'd never play anything else.

Now that I think about it, if you were to bring the commander option back, maybe you could make the spy a commander-only class (To prevent the "despecialization" of the class).

Re: Espionage Class

I thought that was the idea of the trooper class + binocs...

Re: Espionage Class

I can't see any sense in a spy class what looks like a stormtrooper.
"Hey dude, who is what guy with the silly hat and the stormtrooper armor ?"
"I don't know, he has joined the rebellion recently but i trust him..." wink

(The spy in the picture also needs some workout against his beer belly - he didn't serve under Vader, what is clear. And i think the fastest thing he ever flyed was his desk in office). wink

The Stargate Mod for BF2 has a Infiltrator class for the Jaffa, this class uses the same Model as the other side...
IHMO this is a better way to build in a syp...
...Maybee as Pick up Kit on a special designed map, with the spy as objective...

CYNIC, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be. Hence the custom among the Scythians of plucking out a cynic’s eyes to improve his vision

Re: Espionage Class

To me thats just a battlefrontesque bonus for lone wolfers.

He's not fat, he's just got his back arched, in addition to his armor.  And yeah, as it turns out, that guy is just the security guard for intelligence compounds.  I just liked the armor for the hat.

I was originally thinking maybe when someone died they would drop a kit which only the spy could pick up and he could blend into the enemy ranks.  (Just the Imp spy, Bothan would be stealthy)

And I don't believe the Imp's also used Bothans as spies, but if they did then maybe each side could have Bothan spies.

Maybe instead of the commander directing troops from an above-view, he is just able to get behind enemy lines and direct them.  It would probably take the help of his team to create distractions for him to get there, and if his team ever needs help he is right there to turn on the other people who have no idea he is an enemy.

But maybe the commander-only class idea thing could live on for other class ideas, such as the often ill-received Darktrooper, and an armored Wookiee to combat him (Of course there would also be a normal Wookiee, perhaps as support.)

Which just gave me another idea, add the heavy armor option back from vanilla, only it determines if support (only support) is Wookiee or Human.  Humans have speed and are harder too hit, while Wookiees are powerful with melee, more resistant to damage, and easier to hit.  I'm pretty sure you guys have already modeled the Wookiee anyways.

Re: Espionage Class

I disagree. Not that I dislike the idea of Special Forces/"Ultralight Infantry" units, but all too many have this view of them as "OMG 1337 SPECOPS PWNAGE ACTION TIME!!!111". But really, if they're implemented like that, they're lone wolf classes. Implemented so that they need teamwork, they're completely different. Take PR. They have a Special Forces class, with light weapons and binoculars and explosives and everything, but... they're not that much fun. Being "Special forces" consists just as much of much crawling through high grass, sitting completely still, holding fire reporting troop movement, etc. In essence, it's either lone wolfing or... boring.

Not to mention that the roles of "spies" and special forces are covered in FS anyway:

Artillery spotting? Trooper with binoculars.
Reconnaissance and monitoring of enemy activity? Trooper with binoculars.
Sabotage missions? Squads going behind enemy lines. Not that it matters anyhow as anything you blow up seems to respawn after less than minute anyhow.
Etc.

Not to mention, of course, that we're maxed out class-wise. If we are to add another class, we'd have to remove one of the existing ones - Trooper, HWS, Medic, Support or Officer. And that just wouldn't work as the classes are weighed down with equipment as they are and fewer ordinary classes just wouldn't work.

Re: Espionage Class

I just want to know why we would need a spy in a huge battle?

Usually the spies do their work BEFORE the shots are fired wink

DS1 and DS2 for example.
