Topic: Suggestion : TIES need more boost ?

I see someone else posted on the need to overpower X Wings . I was on my way here before seeing that to suggest that the TIES need to be faster . When you watch the films the TIE FIGHTERS streak by at insane speeds . This was Palpatine's trade off for losing the shields , to increase speed and dominate all opposition. TIE FIGHTERS are the elite hotrods of the Empire , the current speed is fine for novices , what Im suggesting is give the Xwings the astromech droids for repairs he suggested, but make the TIE FIGHTERS insanely fast as a trade off , as it stands the Empire's forces are easy targets in every fighter we use.  Dont really blame your team for missing this, as the Battlefront games didnt get it right either.   If the speed is too much and some folks find the TIES unstable , then make the extra speed a boost function , I just want the option of some better defensive maneuvers. In my opinion , this modification will help the mod and make space battles more intense.

The Battlefront games, as well as First Strike are online multiplayer games.  You need to balance teams evenly against each other, and it would suck too much testing time away from more interesting things to make all the TIES weak as squeezey pooh and fast as hell and correctly balance that gameplay-wise.

Plus, it's just no fun to die with one or two laser grazes.

Sometimes gameplay supercedes lore.

I can see where that opinion is valid, however I never suggested increasing the TIEs firepower , just it's velocity .  You balance a repairing X Wing with a TIE fighter that can run circles around any ship for brief periods of time (limited boosts) that will keep people from using them to overdominate the Rebs by making it to the spawn point before they can make it out and into the mission objective space.   Probably a good idea to make the boost re-charge very slowly, too.

Also?  why arent TIE Bombers a 2 man operation like Y wings ?  I cant believe you made them single seater bombers , one seat for a pilot and one for bombardier, or is there a tech limitation that prevented implementing?

Hmm, that's a good question regarding the TIE Bombers.  Probably just because the Y-Wing already had a second seat from the space version, whereas the TIE Bomber's space version has always been a single seater.

Maybe it'll get a second seat in a future patch.

I personally feel both TIE Fighters and Interceptors (and maybe TIE Bombers) should have a higher max speed to better balance them out against rebel fighters (in addition to making them more lore accurate), but I'm not so keen on adding a boost function as a solution to the problem. I'd rather just increase their max speed.

TIE Bombers are single seater only craft, whereas the two Y-wing models in First Strike are the single seater BTL-A4 models (featured prominently in Episodes IV-VI) and the two seater BTL-S3 models.

However, the Y-wings that are suppose to be the BTL-S3 models in FS, actually need to be corrected. Right now, they're just the A4 models with the ability to hold a pilot and a WSO. With only one seat. lol tongue The pilot and the WSO sit back-to-back (like in the T-47) in a slightly extended cockpit.

I think the Interceptor needs a speed increase, I think the TF is pretty much here. It already turns faster than most of the other FS ships, so not sure why your having problems pulling off manouveres.

TIEs are already faster than X-Wings, and eat Y-Wings for breakfast if they just watch the laser turret. Only thing I'd like to see would be TIEs (other than the Bomber) given boost. There's probably a good reason why they don't, but I think they really could need it.

As for an R2 repairing your fighter... no thanks. We've got repair ships in FS, and R2s don't repair fighters. At most they run diagnostics and repair/reboot on-board systems, but they can't actually repair fighters other than maybe fix up whatever is in range of their robotic arms, like in ANH. If my fighter is down to 39% hp, I don't want it magically repaired by my R2 - that'd just be silly.

As was said, TIE Bombers are single-seater craft because TIE Bombers are single-seater craft smile .

Hehe, yeah, I was a bit surprised when I noticed that the "two-seater" Y-Wing actually has only one seat big_smile . Hopefully, a two-seater model will be made if time permits, but that's not my decision.

PS: Weren't all fighters made faster for 1.2?
