Topic: The amount of equipment is overwhelming.

One thing that I think doesn't help the otherwise relatively intuitive gameplay of FS is the amount of items you get with any class. There is an enormous amount of equipment that I in (normal gameplay) have found relatively extraneous: sure, having smoke grenades once in a while isn't a bad thing for passing vehicle columns but why do I have so much stuff? How often is anyone going to use the fusion cutter?

The problem isn't so bad with the Medic kit, but the regular soldier/trooper kit is horrible in this respect. I'd be more detailed, but the manual pdf seems to be corrupted.

Is it possible to re-implement the customize menu so I don't have to lug around all this stuff? It would at least help documentation-wise.

I use the fusion cutter a lot to repair vehicles when playing as support. I have my R2 unit rearm me and drop an ammo crate down if I see an eweb in need. Pistol is more accurate than many of the rifles, knife is good for those sneak attacks. Then of course the detpacks and mines are always handy.....Thats just one kit, I use all items in the others as well.

It is an overwhelming amount of kit if your not sure what it does. Would be better if we had labels in game telling you what you just selected.

Fair enough - I just see a lot of them as niche. Here are the ones I use frequently in play:

1. Blaster
2. Pistol
3. Bacta can
4. Defrib
5. HW shield
6. E-Web
7. Generator
8. Occasional sonic grenade for area-denial

And that's basically it. I'm sure the others have their uses, but I just haven't seen those uses emphasized enough to where the fact that I have them outweighs all the scrolling I have to do.

Check the FS Wiki. It has info on every item in the game.

Every single item is useful to me, with the possible exception of the Rebel HWS remote, which seems very reluctant to actually engage enemies and only seems to give away my position. The R2, too, I almost never use as I can just as easily just place a generator.

As for your concerns, implementing more classes so that equipment could be spread out more, as well as expanding the customization system, would both help, but neither is possible due to these things being hard-coded. I, and many others, absolutely agree with you, though - there's way too much stuff given too each class.

The fusion cutter that repairs your precious vehicles? They use it all the time. Am I missing something here hmm ?

Hm, i use all items.

To avoid the scrolling i use the f key to switch between weapons.
I also have asigned the main gun (Weapon 3) and the pistol (Weapon 2) to the tumb buttons of my mouse.

I use the fusion cutter when i need it.
To repair a vehicle (like a stolen walker or speederbike), to repair a damaged droid (like the stationary gonk-droids), i think it even would work on damaged gun-enplacements.

AFIAK the BF 2 Engine support up to 50 destroyble statics on a map, so in future maps the cutter may be usefull to repair damaged bridges, consoles, doors,...

I don't think the classes have to many items, the only thing i critizies is the the class with the mines & detpacks also has an ammuniton box...
