Re: Simple tweek for endor

The flyable lamba would be impossible, first off most of the time some noob would get into it and press z straight away, and there you have it. And you whant to land the lamba? ok it's possible, but don't forget lamba is a lagfest, when you land the lamba in a hotzone with lets 16vs16  players, your bound to or lag the sh*t outta everybody or crash the server.

The lamba lag kicks in when you try to land, seeing how you would have to fly high and correctly, stop middle air and see if you can land it in the middle where there are no trees, not that would work, the only problem is while your landing you would get massive lag and everybody around you.

This idea rates as bad as omens suggestion of another Tatooine map.

Re: Simple tweek for endor

Another Tatooine map is NOT a bad idea- how many china maps are in BF2?

The issue with Tatooine is with finding excuses for Imperial/rebel forces to be fighting there, not a game play issue.

The Tatooine maps are the easiest most straightforward maps to understand and play- no crazy objectives or mid map uncap, just straight push/ conquest. You do not start off 10k from the nearest CP like Ryloth, have to deal with uncapturable twig tree fortresses or stumble about in the snow getting shot by what appeared to be a patch of snow moments before. There's not a lot to figure out map wise , so new players get to focus on wondering about weapons and kit (like why their grenades are producing green smoke screens rather than exploding.)

As to date all the Tatooine maps have centered around cities I'd like to see a Tatooine map done in the style of a broad open wilderness with rock crags, smattering of buildings/moisture farms  and possibly a valley or beggars canyon (not one the size OR unplayable dominance of mines on Ryloth)

The EP1 speeder race is a good example of the kind of terrain this might involve.

Re: Simple tweek for endor

Unfeasible for several reasons.

1. As far as I know, it's not lore-accurate or realistic. The battle was fought by infantry, speeder bikes, and AT-ST's. I don't even like the inclusion of the probot, so naturally I wouldn't want to see a flying shuttle.
2. Landing a shuttle in a heavily forested map would be very difficult, and come to think of it, there are only a few places it can land. The losses would be really high, even if we went into the map editor and made a whole lot of more clearings for it to use as landing zones.
3. The trees are low-polygon models which look nice enough from ground level, but downright horrible from above. Open a BattleRecorder file of EST and you'll know what I mean. So we'd have to make new tree models from scratch.
4. Because of the edge the shuttle would give Imperials, adding it would require hours of testing and rebalancing.

So no, I don't think so.

Another Tatooine map is NOT a bad idea- how many china maps are in BF2?

You have a point, but China offers far more varied terrain than Tatooine, for one thing. For another, there are so many scenarios and worlds to explore in the SW universe that people easily feel they're being "cheated" out of a new experience if we stick to the same world over and over again.

I'd actually like to see a huge El Alamein-style tank battle map myself. Just huge flat expanses with some scattered hills, plateaus, forts and maybe a tiny village or two.

I don't think I want to see another Tatooine map in the near future, though, so it should have to be on another planet, and not in a sand desert. A relatively flat expanse of tundra would work really well due to the tundra's lack of trees and overall beauty. It'd be a welcome change.

Re: Simple tweek for endor

No more tatooine maps, im getting sick of deserts. And this idea makes no sense to me, there are few clearings on Endor and the outposts arent very far apart so it seems a little pointless to have a flyable lambda.

Re: Simple tweek for endor

When people play a SW game they expect to see drastically varied environments. Its a part of Star Wars, each planet has its own niche and people expect to experience alot of different planets in a single movie/book/comic/game and they expect those planets to be each memorable, not a single world. As such there isn't going to be any more tatooine maps for a good long time. This is after all a mod about the GCW not just tatooine. If you you think we are running out of possible planets have a look at this list tongue : http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_planets

Back on topic:
1. The trees look terrible upclose (This can't be fixed unless you want the map lagging)
2. The sky looks horrible if you get above the canopy
3. There is no way you will be able to navigate the trees with the lambdas wings the way they are.
4. Not lore acurate
5. Would completely unbalance the map
