Topic: Bandwidth conservation
I'm far too old to have a proper understanding of these things, and my apologies if you already know all this, but I've seen mentions here and there of concerns about the current traffic to this website getting close to exceeding the maximum bandwidth.
I've no doubt you've had the foresight to make allowances for the increased traffic caused by running a stats server, but have you considered the traffic generated by people using search engines to look up "First Strike mod"?
Unless you take steps to prevent it, search engines will scan every part of the site every time a search is made, using up bandwidth each time. I know a couple of clans that have fallen foul of this.
This forum is huge; there are 57 pages of threads going back to January 2006 in the General Board alone! Surely, many of those threads are now completely redundant and can be deleted. I understand you can also block search engines' access to certain parts of the site, too.
It could make a hell of a difference to the volume of traffic you're getting...
