Topic: Refinery [WIP]

This is a work in progress so nothing is final.

Title, setting and backstory have not yet been determined, although its evolved into a setting that looks alot like Dantooine.

The 64 player version is a combined arms, push map and 7 CPs (Imperial Stronghold, Drilling Platform, Refinery, Communication Tower, Living Quarters, Depot, and Dock).  All of them are capturable except the starting Rebel base (Depot).  Haven't really started on the 32 and 16 player versions but I've got a good idea of what they will be.

I want to keep heavy armor to a minimum.  The Lambda (may be replaced by the Rebel counterpart if its ever put in game) will play an important role for the Rebels.  I don't want infantry to feel like fodder for vehicles.  As such I've kept most of the CPs relatively close and will provide good cover at most locations.  The Empire will have two fighters and the Rebels will have one to provide support for the Lambda.  This is the idea.  Things could change.

Lightmaps and Colormaps are first runs and are not final.

Anyway, time for some screenshots...

Here's the map view.

Re: Refinery [WIP]

Looks good, I like how you used the statics in most cases.

Crits:

Terrain near the freighters is real ugly, try to do something else there, or remove them imo.

The com tower/drilling platform look good, except I think it would be more impressive if you gave them more support beams going vertical, to busy it up a bit.

Something about the fog settings doesn't go well to me...

The rest of the map looks excellent though, good work.

Re: Refinery [WIP]

I'm really impressed with your work the map looks excellent. I especially like your clever use of statics. It is about time that the bulk freighter ended up on a ground map.

The only crits i can think of are:
*The rebel base appears to have an AT-AT barge, not terribly rebelly.
*The large concentration of statics in some areas may be enough to cause lag but this really can't be said for sure unless it is tested on a full server.
*Undergrowth can also be a major lag cause, again the thick undergrowth will need to be tested on a full sever, though it appears it isn't near any high static concentrations so it may be safe.
*I have to agree with Ty about the fog, in some shots it just doesn't look right, this may be due to the sky box having clashing colours in opposite directions or higher up.

I would also really like to see a minimap with CP locations (just take a screeny ingame with the minimpa generated).

Re: Refinery [WIP]

Gad, you can't please anyone around here can you?

Well at least I'm impressed and won't be spouting off. Do you have IRC?  If not, get it.  mIRC is recommended (www.download.com).  We're on the quakenet server (any quakenet server will work), in channel #first-strike .  I very much encourage you to stop by tomorrow.

Re: Refinery [WIP]

Looks interesting. If I were you Id see if someone would be nice enough to alter the Ryloth textures abit (making grey versions for example) and dupliacate the statics with the varied texture.
