Topic: SL spawn bug

I joined RTs server last night while Bestine was running and joined JimWalker's squad. He was there as a green icon on the map for me to spawn on. We were Rebels and we got up the hill and into the house in Northern Steppes where he put down a beacon. Quite a while later, I got killed, but when I tried to respawn on the beacon, there was no green icon at all... The beacon was still there, but I couldn't see it.

A round or two later, I was SL defending on EST. I spawned as Officer, grabbed the speederbike and headed back to the Tree Village where I planted the beacon and got all set up with an Eweb, like you do. We quickly lost the 1st CP then the VOIP queries started: "Where are you?" and "I can't see you to spawn on!"

I checked and the beacon was still there. I pressed G, but couldn't pick it up! I shot it out and told them to spawn on me, but they still couldn't see me! Needless to say, we quickly lost the Village, and the bug meant I couldn't keep a squad together for the whole round.

Playing the other way the next round, the Imps put up a brillant defence and we didn't get past the Village. I asked in chat if they were able to spawn on their beacons; they were!

So, the bug seemed to come and go, and I don't think I've encountered it before, but I can tell you it was highly frustrating when it happened!

Happened yesterday on the RT server: Omen put the beacon in one of the huts at the Ewok tree village and died soon after. Then he couldn't spawn back and I noticed the green icon was some way to the north in the map of where it should've been. Then it moved to the south of where it should've been. Omen then replaced the beacon and it worked from then on. I'm not sure if he had to destroy and resupply in order to replace the beacon or if he was able to pick it up normally.

Oh, and John, I don't think your squad members can spawn on you if you destroy the beacon.

They can, can't they? I'm pretty sure that under normal circumstances, the SL spawn reverts to the SL himself as soon as the beacon goes down. I've had surviving squad members shoot the beacon when we've lost the Tree Village before, and other squad members were immediately able to spawn on my position.

Anyway, there was something weird going on with the SL spawn on RT last night!

Afaik: no, once you place a beacon you cease to be the spawn point and only resume being the spawn point once the beacon is no longer deployed and you re-spawn, in that order.

Also, a poorly placed beacon (or one that has freshly spawned troops crowded around it ) will not function, but should have registered on the spawn screen- perhaps your squad didn't notice it?

Lastly, if your squad dropped below beacon requisite point after the thing was deployed, it should have cease to function.

this happend toady on RT on mos Espa  Rabid you were there same thing happend.the becon got destroyed but john was still alive but we didn't he see him on the map

If you place the beacon is a small crevice or a tight space, it will not work, and will afaik become an orange square on the map. Same thing if you are SL, if you are in a small space they will not be able to spawn on you.

I don't really know about the beacon>destroy>SL spawn  issue though... never noticed that.

I've not noticed a SL beacon ever go orange (like the starfighter spawnpoints do when there's no craft available), but I have frequently come across the problem of not being able to spawn on them when they're in a tight spot. You can still see it as a green available spawnpoint, but the respawn counter stays at 0 seconds. I've found that if you keep trying, you will eventually spawn in – it may take half a dozen tries, though. I take it that there are several spawnpoints around the beacon and the engine won't let you spawn into a wall...

I now know you are all correct about not being visible as a spawnpoint until the SL respawns after a beacon has been destroyed. Considering how much I've played as SL, I'm surprised I missed that. Maybe it's because, with one or two exceptions, I often deliberately get myself quickly killed after placing a beacon so that I can play as another class. (I find that sitting behind an unshielded Eweb/MkII makes me a fine target, and I can't be revived if I die there!)

Nonetheless, what happened on Endor the other night was different. I had a squad of 5-6 players throughout the round, but they could not see any of the beacons I placed nor see me as SL after I respawned.
