Topic: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

A few suggestions:

1) Allow turrets to be repaired

2) a) Name the turbolasers on the minimap
    b) add signs with these names on the turbolaser consoles.

3) Make the Tower things that the rebels need to destroy (forgotten the names) weaker. The map lasts way too long - especially since the map should centre abit more on the trench.

4) There only seems to be 1 man-able turbolaser covering any Tower, meaning non-flyers are left quite bored. To balance out the Towers being made weaker , add more turrets in decent areas.

5) Make it less laggy - reduce the static LOD distances somewhat.
                              - possibly even turn the AI turrets off if it helps, the extra playability would probably outweigh the very few occasions that you actually get shot by them - having all those turrets rotating must put some strain on the map........for little payoff really.

6) I know the problems of this, but lightmaps, even on low, would help to make it look less bland.

All good ideas Bandu- I'd disagree with letting turrets repair/respawn tho. Simply allowing more of them to be controllable should be enough to keep ground pounders busy.

The AI turrets rarely kill someone, and when they do its really not contributing to a PVP atmosphere.

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

In my opinion, what space maps in general needs is more things for non-pilots to do. In my eyes, this should take priority. Ie. turrets on Bulk Freighters in Convoy Raid that players can spawn into; turrets that people can spawn into on the Star Destroyer on EfH... etc. Give the people who don't like to fly something to do.

I like the ideas in the OP, though. When I decide to go turret, I spend what feels like several minutes hopping from console to console trying to figure out which is the right one. Making small signs showing which consoles go where (this could be a diagram with red dots or a sign simply saying "NE Def. Tower" or whatever, same to me) and putting them on the consoles in BF2 Editor would go a long way towards making them more widely used, I think.

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

There *is* an order to where the turrets are located.  Its just really difficult to figure it out, and once you do, you often get confused about where you are after turret swapping, making you chose the wrong turret...

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

Full ack.

Name the towers, name the turrets.

About the lags:
I have had Lags with a Pentium 4 Northwood @3GHz and a 1950 GT.
After i have changend the Board and CPU (Athlon 64X2 6000) i don't have any lags with Battle for Yavin. GFX Board is still the 1950 GT.

Seems to me what Yavin puts a lot off stress to the CPU. wink

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

The constant complaints about space maps just highlights the lack of combined arms maps in general in FS.  Space maps should provide something for non-pilots to do as much as Endor Clearing and Mos Espa should have something for pilots to do.

Hell, every map coming out from now on should provide at least a pilot option and an extensive infantry combat option, let alone tanks and such.
