Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

Not such a bad concept. Even if its just some transports or something light.

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

I agree that the manned turrets should be more easily identifiable and repairable, but I don't agree that there should be more of them.

I once got shot down four times in a round by the invisible autolasers, so they are not altogether useless. Nevertheless, I think getting rid of them altogether would significantly reduce the (over)load on the server CPUs, which is what causes most of the lag (and I believe the Windfarm is the cause of similar overload on Ryloth). The lack of autolasers would be more than offset by having repairable manned turrets, and that may mean reducing the hit strength of the Deflection Towers to compensate. However, I wouldn't reduce the strength of the Towers simply to reduce the length of the round.

"The map lasts way too long" is not an opinion I share.

We ran two rounds of Yavin on RT's server last night and it remained fully populated thoughout both highly enjoyable rounds. It is the possibly the best map in the whole mod for eliciting a feeling of being there in the film, and it's highly popular.

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

Hehe, those Yavin rounds last night were awesome! The usual lag but I have come to expect that these days, particualrly on this map. I would say that most TRA players are able to cope with it because our core games are XvT and XWA, both old and lag infested games. Give us a flying map with lag and we shine big_smile

As it was I managed to destroy the death star then keep rebels at bay in both rounds tongue

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

The constant complaints about space maps just highlights the lack of combined arms maps in general in FS.  Space maps should provide something for non-pilots to do as much as Endor Clearing and Mos Espa should have something for pilots to do.

Hell, every map coming out from now on should provide at least a pilot option and an extensive infantry combat option, let alone tanks and such.

It sorta scares me how you're starting to rival Ty in controversial FS suggestions tongue .

I just think it's WAY too far along in the game to release numerous new maps that don't include air, ground and infantry combat options, TBH.  Goes against the very spirit of what makes the traditional Battlefield engine/gameplay great.

thanks Canadiens1160, words of truth always appreciated

Re: Battle of Yavin suggestions for 1.35

Sure, but there are always going to be specific maps that don't tick all these boxes, a battle within Tantive IV  or the space battle above Endor for instance, you can't just shoehorn in additional infantry or armour elements to a map that doesn't require it. And not all BF maps have all these elements of war either, there are several infantry only or maps without air support. So in my opinion it is not realistic to say that every map requires all of these elements. That said I do agree that we do need more combined arms maps in First Strike, but I don't believe every new map we release has to be one.
