Re: Clone Wars TV Series

Not much to say about the newest episode. Its "The Cube" in Star Wars. I quite liked this episode and I especially liked Bane's line about killing someone like a man.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series

Yeah, was about to say the same, was expecting a laser grid to pop out of a wall and dice a few characters at one point, though on second thoughts that might be a little strong for the Clone Wars  tongue, quite good though, and certainly looking forward to the conclusion next week. Only a few things didn't sit well with me, the fact Count Dooku couldn't sense Obi-Wan's presence (though there is a scene which suggests he might suspect something, so we'll see how that pans out), and a moment where Dooku orders Obi-Wan as the Bounty Hunter Hardeen to kill another character, and instead he spares him. A Sith would consider this a sign of weakness and most likely kill the person they'd ordered to do the dirty deed, so that seemed odd to me. Other than those niggles? Good episode.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series

I think Dooku already knows that Hardeen is infact Obi-Wan because he seemed to react so weird towards it when he was told that Hardeen supposedly killed Obi-Wan. He was like "O'rly?" and had the smirk on his face. Also, he felt the weird disturbance in the Force.

I'd say, add one and one together and you get Dooku knowing that it is infact Obi-Wan. Thats how I think at least.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series

Yeah, that's the scene (or scenes should I say) I'm referring to in my post, should make for an interesting finale next week.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series

*Warning, Heavily Spoilerific, so don't read if you've not watched this yet*

Pretty good finale to this sequence of episodes with the action shifting to Naboo as the time for the mercs to hatch their plan to snatch the Chancellor draws near. If last week's episode was Cube set in the Star Wars universe, than this one is Ocean's Eleven, or any other classic heist movie. The gang all get their specific roles to play for the operation to work, and as mentioned in last week's episode, all the challenges within the Box reflect the challenges of the operation itself. Once again Jedi morality is called into question when the gang infiltrate a Naboo garage and Obi-Wan allows an innocent civilian to be murdered right in front of him. Sure, it could be argued that he didn't want to blow his cover and ruin the mission, but I'm sure he could have found a way to save the guy. Stun him with his blaster before Cad Bane could squeeze off his shot or something, which would have left his cover intact.

The operation is successful for a time, and the gang manage to snatch the Chancellor, but Dooku fails to show up at the rendezvous point, and Obi-Wan still disguised as Hardeen finally shows his true colours by rescuing the Chancellor and capturing the remaing free members of the gang, including Cad Bane. I found this a bit of an anti-climax, especially seeing how easily an unarmed Obi-Wan managed to capture the Bounty Hunter, the same guy who managed to give two armed Jedi a run for their money once. It was waaay too easy, but this was because it wasn't over yet, and they had to save room to fit in the end game. And this is where it gets interesting. Dooku has double crossed the gang to fool the Jedi into thinking the threat to the Chancellor has passed, leading to a lessening in security giving him the opportunity to put into play the real capture attempt on the Chancellor. Of course this whole plot is just another of Palpatine's schemes to steer Anakin on the path to the Dark Side, and an opportunity for him to pit his current apprentice against his future one to see who's the strongest. All this plays beautifully well into the typical machinations of the Sith, the glee in Palpatine's eyes as he watches them duel is spot on. Dooku gets the upper hand and manages to almost escape with the Chancellor, but Obi-Wan's timely arrival results in Palpatine being snatched from Dooku's clutches just as his shuttle lifts off. Leading to the climax of a thrilling finale. So a few issues with this episode, but the end really took it up a notch. Also it is nice to see a bit of a wedge coming between Anakin and Obi-Wan. When he discovers it was Obi-Wan's idea not to tell him bout the plan to fake his death that does not make him a happy bunny, this also fuels his growing distrust of the Jedi Council, while the threat on Palpatine's life also strengthens Anakin's bond to him, with him feeling the need to protect the Chancellor. All good stuff doing a fine job of foreshadowing events to come.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series

Oh my hamsters, the newest one was a good one. smile

At first I thought that why would Dooku spend so much resources to take out his former apprentice hiding in Dathomir but aside that weird fact, I really liked this episode. It didnt have any Jedi nonsense and it was basically only "bad vs bad" scenario. Grievous is in it? Hell yes!

This episode was helluva dark ranging from black magic to voodoo, zombies and carnage of native people.

Thumbs up.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series

Yes indeedy, this was a bit of a corker wasn't it?

*SPOILERS!!!!*

It does make perfect sense for Dooku to commit such resources to destroy Ventress and the Nightsisters, after all remember they've already made two attempts on his life. First when Ventress and a team of Nightsisters attempted to assassinate him, and then again with their double agent and his new apprentice Savage Opress, so some form of retribution was always on the cards, just a matter of when.

Like you say it was definitely dark, you wonder how the Nightsisters are going to take on the full mechanised might of a full droid army (with General Grievous at it's head), with starfighters bombers and the like, but they actually quite convincingly hold their own for a time, but I always thought they'd have to lose in the end, but when the Voodoo element came in I thought, hang on, they might just pull this out of the bag, but then in some unusually logical and realistic writing for the Clone Wars, even though Dooku's life was under immediate threat he reasoned that he couldn't allow Ventress and the Nightsisters to survive and continue plotting against him. So this plot element which could have drawn the conflict to a close in a bit of an unsatisfying way was raised and then rejected, resulting in no easy way out, this was going to be definitively resolved one way or another right now. Which was a refreshingly bold move. So Dooku stays the course through the pain being inflicted upon him, and finally the droid army are victorious, reaching the Nightsister leader Mother Talzin and breaking the Voodoo spell she held over Dooku.

Strong and dark storytelling here, taking in black magic, Zombies and Voodoo, not to mention an excellent duel between Dooku's two rival apprentices Grievous and Ventress, even this is beautifully handled, with Ventress just about getting the better of Grievous, and then the treacherous cyborg droid leader doing what he does best by going back on his word and commanding his army to take out Ventress when their duel turns out bad for him, playing perfectly into his movie counterpart's cowardly nature.

So this episode ends with the Nightsisters defeated, Ventress wounded and all alone once more, where could this go now? I'm feeling that the return of Savage Opress and the proper Clone Wars debut of Darth Maul could be just over the horizon.

It is also interesting to note, that once again Clone Wars seems to be at its best when the principal hero characters are not involved, what does that say?
