Topic: Launcher Error connecting to update server

I've read the forum for about a half an hour now without finding an answer to this problem. I have the downloaded bf2142 Deluxe edition patched to 1.5. I downloaded First Strike v1.4 Full.

The first problem I have is that after unpacking everything, the updated has an 'Error connecting to update server'. This happens every time.

Moving past this by telling the launcher not to update, I get to the login screen and try login to my EA account but it just continues contacting EA Master Server. It never goes through, yet if I try to play the normal battlefiled 2142 there's no problem.

Can anyone please tell me what's going on here?


PS Do you join FS servers in the same way as you join 2142 servers by browsing the in-game menu? - Thanks

It sounds like a firewall issue if you're having connection problems with both the Launcher and First Strike. Make sure the Launcher exe,and the FirstStrike exe (found in \Battlefield 2142\) have full access to the internets

I added those .exes to the programs exceptions list and it didn't change anything. Not even upon disabling both BullGuard and Windows firewalls entirely did it work. Is there anything else I can try?

I'm not using any firewall (I'm using a stealthed NAT router) and I still get the same error, even though the launcher connects and downloads the files ok.

The launcher downloads all the updates  (up to 1005) and then spits out a "cannot connect to server" error at the end, so it doesn't complete the update and stays at version 1000, even though the 1001,1002,1003,1004, and 1005 files are there.

This is on a fresh install of the system and BF2142, FS 1.4 full.

More details - I've opened up the Nat on the router completely just to be sure  - and get the same "cannot connect" error just the same - this is after it succesfully downloads the version zip files up to 1005.

This error seems not to set the "version" field in the launcher preference, so I set that manually to 1005 (as well as +widescreen 1 in the argument field). After I do this and run the updater it now shows "no new updates" - so far so good.

Now I can start the game, and browse servers  - but now I get the "content error" on every server i try to connect to, including non-punkbuster servers. I've gone through the faq and nothing seems to apply. I'm running XP, not vista, up to date drivers, I've reinstalled everything from scratch and still get back to the same place.

It would be a big help if someone could help me out becuase I'd really like to play this mod.

But I still can't join FS servers sad I think I've tried everything.

BTW, I'm  using the Deluxe Edition - I read in another thread a fix which could solve the problem, of checking for the BFBC.wmv file and deleting firststrike.exe, then relaunching - still doesn't work sad

if it seems to be generating a lot of errors (ie unpacking weapons, error, file may be corrupt) then try the following:

Delete C:program file/first strike

navigate to C:program files/electronic arts/bf2142/mods/first strike and run fslauncher0.0.7.1.pub, this will reinstall the launcher independantly of the game.

Navigate to the mods folder again, delete all update files (should be a zip format with each version number, 1001, 1002 etc)

run the launcher again, it SHOULD update properly (make sure you set game version to 1000 in preferances) and then launch the game.
