Re: Launcher Error connecting to update server

Hm, the modified content error is caused by the launcher. If the launcher doesn't change the shaders.zip you will get this error.

Thanks for the reply smile

The only visible errors I'm getting now are the launcher bug (update problem, doesn't quit) and then the regular "modified content" error, which so far has resisted all fixes smile But I'll give this a go and report back. Thanks again.

The shader error is only ONE possible cause of a modified content error. Other causes include PB not updating correctly (try starting a game of regular 2142 and joining a server to allow PB to update, or manually update it), it may also be caused by oncompatible versions of the mod, ie if an update has not installed correctly.

Re: Launcher Error connecting to update server

The launcher downloads all five update zip files, up to 1005 - the files are there, I can see them in my folder. However after completing the download 1005 it throws a final "cannot connect to server" error. I then have to manually force version 1005 through the launcher preferences - after this, the launcher recognises the updates and finds "no new updates." But I still get a Mod Content error when I try to join seervers.

HOWEVER - it may be that the 1005.zip file I'm getting is corrupted or incomplete, since the launcher gives the connection error straight after downloading it. I can't seem to get the launcher to behave differently, so would it be possible to try a direct download of the v1005 zip file, then force the version number through the preferences again? Is there a direct dowload link anywhere?

(I'm at work right now so I haven't been able to try the launcher fixes proposed before yet)

Regarding other possible causes of the Modified Content error, I've done everything in the fix thread, (except the Vista stuff because I'm using XP) incluing fully updating PB ,and I've also tested out trying to join NON-punkbuster servers and I get the same thing. So the "modified content" error looks to me to be an in-game error, not PB  (also punkbuster usually identifies itself when it spits you out) Maybe is the BF2142 game doing its own scan of the install folder, independent of PB, maybe looking for files that don't match an installer list somewhere?

As I said I'm using the Deluxe Edition and in other threads this has been identified as causing problems with FS. If the game is checking the install file list for additions, perhaps FS is somehow using a different file list than the DE default list. Or something?

Finally I CAN create a local server and check out the maps, vehilces, and everything is sweet. It really is a fine piece of work, you've done a great job. But it's breaking my heart that I have no-one to fight smile I'll stick with it though; a few people on the forums seem to have similar issues so maybe we can crack it.

Re: Launcher Error connecting to update server

Well still no luck but I've managed to pin it down a bit - the launcher is dropping connections to the update server mid file, and I'm getting corrupted versions of update 1002 and 1005.

Each time I try the launcher update process they end up too small (< 20% of what they should be) but they get named correctly and the launcher just treats them as valid.

I guess this is because 1002 and 1005 are bigger files (1.5MB + compared to the other zips, which are all less than about 104 KB) and the connection from me to the update server is so bad (traffic? distance?) that it never last long enough to get a good copy of those files.

I'll be trying the launcher update different times of day, however i'm in malaysia so these things can be intermittant or I may be completely out of luck. But there's not much more I can do till I can get good copies of those update zip files.

Would it be possible if anyone could tell me the IP of the update server so I can check the ping from here?

And are the latest update zip files mirrored anywhere, that I can download them independently of the launcher?

Thanks for the help smile

Geiger, here are some direct links to the builds, place then in your Bf2142/mods folder in programfiles.

Re: Launcher Error connecting to update server

Great, many thanks, I'm downloading them now. I guess it is a traffic problem (assuming those are links to the same update server) because Firefox couldn't handle the download either, but i'm using a download manager to grab them in chunks. EDIT - I see that they're from your domain, and you're in Scotland, which is half the world away. And Malaysian internet is rubbish sad

Anyway, thanks again, another step forward in the great march of human progress! smile
