That, and the fact that the BI chaps were on the other team, so it was RSF and some fairly unknown players versus most of the regulars.

RSF were all on the same team when BI joined.   At that time, RSF was thrashing the other team... it works both ways.   Usually when BI and RSF stack on different teams gameplay isn't effected that much.  As for unknown players against regulars, I didn't really see that myself.

Well, RSF are hardly new to First Strike so could have always offered some advice and prompted people to squad up. Perhaps even create a squad each so you can be sure of experienced squad leaders running the unknowns.

Doing this prevents people getting peeved by not knowing what they are doing or the map objectives. Getting slaughtered in every round is hardly much fun and is the quickest way to put new players off and prevent them from returning.

Those experienced enough SHOULD know better, when we have problems getting even one server populated each night. If there is a huge team imbalance then something should be said and experienced players try to spread themselves out to balance it up.

Totally.  We (BI) will change our team when possible if the teams are really bad.  Its fun to have a challenging win, and even fun to have a close loss, its not fun to obliterate or be annigalated however.

In a community night especially, clan stacking should be discouraged in order to make the night as much fun as possible for everyone of all skill levels. Save the stacked sides for clan battles please!

Well, in fairness here, people join clans (or at least this is the case with BlackIntel) to play together.  I see no problem with clan stacking during CG's as long as there is another clan doing it on the other side.  Sometimes this doesn't happen, yeah, and causes imbalance, I will admit to that, I've already spoken with some members of BI who tend to switch team during already-unbalanced games about this and it should at least happen less with us.

As for this squad-forcing, i totally and utterly disagree.  This mod is all about freedom, people should discover THEMSELVES the advantages of joining a squad (access to more kit items).  Maybe if expereienced players (Especially those with Clan or test/dev tags) made sure to tell these players about said advantages, we'd get more squad play.  Forcing will push more people away from First Strike than we can afford.  Squadding should be something you want to do as it gives you an advantage, not something which is forced.

EDIT:

Regarding things such as "Training Videos" and the like.  If you seriously want to help with those, I'd recomend applying to join the media team.  Things like this are ideas we have put forward but don't have the time or manpower to follow through with.  Since the unvailing of the Media Team, a YT channel has been setup but is actually pretty bare at the moment...   If you want to apply to join our media team, send an E-Mail to the Media Team adress.

Re: Getting the Community Popular Again

Time before Roundstart was set to 2 Minutes, 30 secs to give the players time to organize into squads and vote for a commander.
Players who didn't join a squad were kicked from the server after the 3rd warning.
Such a warning is possible with a script (tactical gamer servers run this script):
http://www.tacticalgamer.com/wiki/index … dless_kick

Couldn't agree more, and I honestly have never understood the opposition to this idea. It seems to be centered on two things:

a) Freedom (see Gwyn's post above) - seeing there's litterally no advantage, and several disadvantages, of not joining a squad, this argument is as silly as saying you want the freedom to enter the battlefield unarmed, or with 50% health - "why do I have to be forced to pick a class? BF is all all about choice, and if I want the disadvantage of running around without gear and with limited health, using stealth like Solid Snake until I find weapons to take, that's my choice and if you start restricting things you'll just turn people away!

Either way, not all freedom is good anyhow - hence the various control features in mods like Push mode, anti-base camping death zones, locked vehicles, etc. I'd say that one of the reasons I love mods like FH, PR and FS is because they take certain freedoms away for gameplay's sake.

b) "People will join a squad and then still go lonewolf" - which isn't an argument at all since both the lonewolf, other squad members and the squad leader are still better off. For example:

- SL and two teamwork-applying squaddies: no special equipment.
- SL, two teamwork-applying squaddies and a lone wolf: SL gets E-Web, squaddies and lonewolf get gets squad-restricted gear.
- Teamwork is improved because lonewolf will use SL spawn as this is more convenient than walking all the way from the nearest CP (think subconscious teamwork).

Having a lonewolf join a squad for then to tear off by himself is far better than having a lonewolf go off on a rampage without joining a squad.

My stance - I'd be partial to enabling this, at least for a CG or three, to test peoples' reactions. Lots of features sound horribly on paper, but turn out great once they're actually implemented.

Mandatory squad joining should've been part of the game, making you join a squad when you selected a class, for then to only let you make a new squad or switch to another, not leave squads. No one would've complained (more than they complain about having to pick a class), and we'd all have been happy.

Re: Getting the Community Popular Again

Funny this topic should come up now.  Since this weekend I noticed there are more than one server populated at a time.  -  At the time of this post, I counted 3 populated servers. (only 1 had one player hopefully others will join him)

I think ppl are also seeing the benefits of playing with a better connection to a more local server.

Seems to me things are changing slowly, and for the better.  What the regular players do will go a long way to making the new ones want to give FS a good try.

A short pause before rounds during CGs would definitely help so that the regular players could share their experience with new ones.  I wouldn't like to see autokicking, but automatic reminders to squad up would be a definite plus.

Re: Getting the Community Popular Again

As for advertising, what people need to realize is we're not the only ones who can do this. Go spread the word yourselves, on forums, IRC and whatnot - as long as you do it in a good, non-spam way, possibly with some nice stories and screenies and news on upcoming features or whatnot, it's sure to get peoples' attention. Wearing an FS-themed sig or avatar on other forums helps too.

Definitely.

Re: Getting the Community Popular Again

I'm for the idea of kicking people who don't join squads. It will be a bit of a pain having to kick people who do join a squad but go lonewolf but then we'll just have to start telling people they'll be kicked from the squad if they don't listen to orders. This should promote teamwork and get more people to use voip.

BI clanstacking isn't much of a problem as long as other veterans don't flock to our team just 'cause they don't want to be on the losing team though of course our team doesn't always win. We've got the best squad leaders and they can be more important than having more veteran players. There are just too few competent squad leaders that like to play officer constantly. In CG's we, BI, usually have one full squad on one team and a couple of guys left out on the other team. That shouldn't imbalance the teams much. DS server is still admined by us so it's our right to clan stack if we want, it's up to the other veterans to keep the teams balanced.

Re: Getting the Community Popular Again

Yeah I agree with that, we don't have the size of community to start auto kicking people who are just starting to get into the game, the best thing to do is what I always try and do and that is to be vocal give tips, encourage people to squad up etc. Reminders to squad up on the server messages would be a plus.

As far as clan stacking is concerned we're all guilty of it at some point and yeah you should want to play together with your clan mates, but you all know when the game is becoming unbalanced and distinctly one sided, and when this happens you've just got to bite the bullet and break up and switch to other sides to even things out again.

Of course people join clans to play together and many of those clans have their own internal coms in order to chat while in game. If thats the case, then there is no reason they cant play on opposite sides and still have a bit of banter and some fun.

Even if there is another clan on the other side, there may still be a vast differerance in skill and experience between the two clans, again this could be eleviated by spreading the clans around a little. Might also help to get to know other clans and arrange some matches wink

Problem with the kit things, sometimes you get locked out of items by being in a squad with not enough members, while going lone wolf allows you to access them. That needs to be corrected so that no matter what you HAVE to be in a squad to get those goodies. Autokicking people for not squaddding up is very unfair, I have seen servers that do it in BF2 and quite often people end up in a squad with only one or two members because the team numbers dont allow for a number of full squads.
