Topic: New to FS

Well I love Star Wars.  I love Star Wars games but as you all know the games that come from lucas are usually really bad.  I don't have 2142 so I will have to pick it up just to try this mod out.  I saw some footage on youtube and this mod looks just amazing. 

But I do have some non-FS questions.  I like pretty much every type of game, and Star Wars added would be awesome.  Can anyone steer me into some good games that have Star Wars mods?  Thanks

Not really.  Source has a mod which will (hopefully) be released soon, called The New Era.  It isn't complete yet, but from what I'm seeing of it it's looking fab. big_smile

There is Movie Battles II for Star Wars: Jedi Knight Academy, thats a decent SW mod.  Fun, at least.

Freeworlds is a pretty good mod for Freelancer, where it is right now is quite good, but they are also working on a new version which removes all the bad stuff from the current one, and expands on all the good stuff.  That's coming along quite well too.


Other than those 3, none really stand out.  Of course, one of those isn't out yet, but the things that have been seen are looking brill.  There are plenty of other mods, however they don't seem anywhere near as impressive.  Most games have a Star Wars mod, usually it is just a matter of searching for your game name coupled with "Star Wars Mod".

Welcome, we look forward to seeing you in game soon KetMalice, your best bet for hunting down other games with dev teams producing Star Wars mod content for them would be to head over to ModDB, this website is an excellent mod related resource and you should have no trouble at all hunting down any and all Star Wars mods that are out there by searching their database. Welcome to the forums! I've played just about every mod and game out there that has anything to do with Star Wars (even a SW mod for Mount and Blade)... and this is one of the best ones yet.

That said, you should go grab this game (2142) from EA for $19.99 and try it out. I bought the game specifically for this mod after following it for some time.

The other above mentioned mods sound great... but I just don't know. I looked at the New Era mod and it looks like a jumbled mess of prequel and original trilogy content and not a whole lot done by the look of their forums. Might be impressive in the end, but it's still going to be a Source mod. So, gameplay will likely be arcade style run and gun unless they tweak some realism settings into it.

The way this mod is now, it's very hard to run amok Counterstrike style. Which is good for me! I can't stand CS.

But definitely go get started, add me to X-Fire (gauwynvorec), and I'll join you in a game or two, three, or more.

I think the two Freelancer mods, (Tides Of War and Freeworlds) dev teams have merged to make the new version of FW...  I've not heard anything of ToW in ages, though I could be mistaken.  Not to sure if there are any servers running ToW anymore, I'd have to check.
