Topic: Epic Games 08.08.09

Just want to say cheers to EVERYONE who showed up for todays Community night.   There may not have been as much people as normally, but the games were epic and even Taloraan seemed to be non-stop action, both rounds.  Usually I get bored halfway through the first.

A big hug goes to RSF aswell, for totally tearing apart the "Clan Stacking" argument that was going around a while back.   You fought well on Mos Espa, good radar evasion tongue

Demos of the games are available here: http://www.blackintel.org/firststrike/demos

Clan stacking against an inferior team is wrong, regardless of what you do against teams of equal skill.

But yes, that was some great rounds, there.

Re: Epic Games 08.08.09

Well, BI has been accused of clan stacking, and unbalancing, multiple times, even when we aren't.   We removed our tags for a few weeks, played exactly as we normally do, and no one mentioned anything about unbalanced teams.  Shows that most people notice tags, especially when loosing, not names.  I'm not saying we're totally innocent, here, just that we aren't as guilty as we've been made out to be in the past.

Anyway, that is a discussion I'd rather drop before it blows into yet another argument sad

Re: Epic Games 08.08.09

Hi there...first...i really enjoyed the games last weekend too smile

About the clan-stacking thingy:

A few months ago i told some friends to install FS and join me. We already had much fun in "Galactic Conquest", so they were all very excited about FS.
These were the times were a full 32 server was quite normal on saturdays.

So the first saturday with my friends, our team lost every round...some in just a few minutes and a look on the list made it clear: winner team was full of clan-tags (there are not many clans in FS i guess;), looser team was filled with names i mostly didnt read before.

The same occured the following saturday and again the same picture.
So my friends were absolutely de-motivated and since then they never played FS again.

It seems they are not the only one which came to that conclusion, looking at the number of payers in these days. I also remeber players of the loosing team writing in chat: "we loose every round sad"

I have to say clearly: the clan stacking was a fact in these times!
I saw it on many evenings, always the same thing...clan mates try to get together, having "their" fun.
Its nothing new, it happens in all MP games and the result is everywhere the same: people leave the game (at least the server).
But when there is no alternative server -as in FS- they just dont come back to be the clan-food.

I can understand both sides.

With the few players left now there is at least on up-side: the clans are forced to split up.

So, apart from the technical problems people experience with FS, the clan-stacking phaenomena was just another "i dont play FS" problem.

in my opinion all this "we removed our tags and see they still whine"-excuses comes too late for a already near-dead patient....

I wanted to make that clear....because it makes me angry that FS suffers (suffered?) from such "soft" problems sad

I understand where you are coming from.
I don't think FS clans are like that really- I don't know any players that would take much pleasure in mercilessly pwning an inexperienced opposition.

I've seen much the opposite. Some servers don't allow teamswitching though, and it can be 'the luck of the draw' that a few clanmates  end up in the same team.

The only time this tends to be a problem is when the clanners have a lot more experience with the game (not always the case) and when the other team don't have anyone with experience (or their squadleader is inexperienced)

Since Teamwork is such a huge part of FS, a clan's natural willingness to communicate can be the deciding factor in victory, regardless of skill levels.

I can only speak for myself, but when I'm up against some names I don't recognise I'll fire warning shots(so as not to just kill them without a fight) and make sure they know the map objectives (they cant sneak past and capture the back CP on espa for example)
And should I feel the teams are really unbalanced, I'll switch teams or ask someone with experience to do so (who may or may not be a clanner)

Keep on the topic of the community game, not old greif.
