Topic: what causes the deserted servers?

i think the empty servers is because the mod lacks of publicity..
also when a server gets a moderate ammount of ppl are in servers from netherlands or germany cause those are the servers with 64 ppl size
in most games or mods. most populated servers are from US always
also i noticed that there are no ranked servers

i suggest to try:
-weekly updates, pics makes ppl go DO WANT! more and follow mods
-a new trailer showing the mod features
-ranked servers
-announce the mod on every Star Wars and Battlefield sites/forums as posible
-More updates on Moddb
-post this mod everywere as if it were a Battlefront III (i know its not but ppl will get excited and will try the mod and will see that FS is far better than battlefront, more balanced and no arcade-ish so it will atract ppl trust me)

i hope this mod communty grows bigger!!
i would be glad to help in whatever you guys need wink

PD: also i dont know if this was suggested beafore or if it can be done but is there any posibility of making the star destroyers movable like titans and be able to board and destroy? that would be awesome and atract ppl for sure! big_smile

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

We do have ranked servers. How did we get stats then? (look at the top of the website and click something called  "stats").

I think publicity would help too, but a lot of people don't play because they get annoyed at dying, it seems.

The weekly updates, it's definitely possible, but the devs are... umm... somewhat lazy:P.

Right now we prefer smaller maps because we don't have a lot of people.

We really need a trailer.

I really doubt that we will lie about FirstStrike being SW Battlefront 3. It's just not right.

The Star Destroyer is simply too big to move. It has to remain as a static object. I've already asked about it in a thread.

Well, I just said what I thought. I'm no FSdev, so I could be wrong about some things.

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

I've actually recently approcahed a couple of Devs about starting a group of people that focuses on advertising First Strike and getting us known.  I've heard nothing back yet, but personally I think it's a great idea.  I've done a fair bit of FS publicising, but being able to do that while also stampted as "First Strike Official Representative" really increases the amount one can do.

Project Reality, for Battlefield 2, is featured by DICE and on the BF2 front page: We can have this done for FS, especially because DICE loves FS after the FS "Dev Team of Old" met up with them.

ISD's are NOT to big to move, they are just to big to be player controlled and moveable.  They can move just fine, with a little bit of fancy coding.

I agree, except I'd rather see the devs working on fixing the current ingame bugs than working on new content.

-a new trailer showing the mod features
Agreed, and has been getting recently discussed in some community groups.

-ranked servers
FS has stats, unfortunately the stats server either needs maintenece or upgrading, and is VERY unrelaiable at this time.

-announce the mod on every Star Wars and Battlefield sites/forums as posible
Something I have done a little of personally.  Being an official representative would change the reception to the advertising.  For one thing, you can contact bigger sites like FileFront and Planet Battlefield to discuss things with the highups, instead of just advertising on forums and the like.

-More updates on Moddb
It's been mentioned to one or two devs already, but we NEED an update on ModDB saying the launcher now DOESN'T play with vanilla content, anymore.  This will bring a number of people back, I belive.

-post this mod everywere as if it were a Battlefront III (i know its not but ppl will get excited and will try the mod and will see that FS is far better than battlefront, more balanced and no arcade-ish so it will atract ppl trust me)
We're simply not Battlefront, even saying we are is enough to send some of us off for a lie down.  It's better to show FS for what it is, instead of say something it isn't and hope the crowd we attract (one thing: SWBF crowd - we don't want to attract most of them) sticks with us.

Regarding the boarding: FS tries to stay close to Lore as possible, there are no indidents (which would work in FS) where the rebels board an ISD.  The best I can think of would be Tantive IV, but I can't see much chance of the devs doing this any time soon - it involves alot of custom models etc.   There aren't any lore-acurate situations where there 2 large ships in the air deploying troops while throwing missiles and stuff at each other. If we could find one, there would still be alot of work in making interiors for the ship and messing around with (the rather complex) Titan code.

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

The best you could do for a boarding map is something to do with an abandoned base, such as a mining facility or the Azameen home base (XWA fans!) Boarding ships won't work.

As to making something like the ISD move..I haven't tried it but I believe the collisionbox is too large or something.

Advertising would be great.

Stats we have. We cant have offiical 2142 ranked servers because its against some kind of EA/Dice rule I believe, running a mod on a ranked server could lead to cheating. That can end up with your player account deleted and your cd code made invalid.

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

oh well that explains it then
but i dont get how the stats works in FS anyway..
and btw. the main servers location is important.
i know some ppl that didnt tryed the mod because the only time that server gets enough ppl for a big match is in a netherlands server and the ping would be too big.
thats important for sure
remember that most populated servers on most games are from US

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

Populated servers on most games are from the US, yes.  FS's players are mostly from the EU.

There was, for a while, a few American servers up, and there were events such as the "American Community Game" which was hosted on one of those servers.  Few people showed up.
