I think First strike needs a viable air transport. I've felt this way for some time, with maps like jundland and bandomeer where it seems wrong for a swift attack force to have to use APCs or hoof it.

Or use lambdas.

There's a lot of things we just can't use. LAATs would be perfect but visually and lorewise they would likely ruin the mod.
Its just no good to have direct copies of things from the clonewars (someone should've told battlefront)

Starwars is filled with airspeeders, just none appear in the movies that are viable for ingame.

I propose we pull something out of our collective saarlac pits that looks authentically starwars, that fits the role of maneuverable light air transport.
Above is a 'shopped PAC transport and while It's very recognisably so, you have to admit that some of its lines are very like the LAAT.

I'd be willing to throw a few concept sketches around and maybe even submit some VRML files (if they are any good to you)

Re: Transport requested!

Old Republic ships probably won't be in.

YT-1300 Correllian Transports would work on some maps, but they're pretty big, and I don't know how I feel about using a vehicle just because it was in the films.

The ATR-7 Assault Transport is likewise pretty big, and very heavily armed, and thus doesn't fit most maps. It'd be awesome for a space boarding map or some huge combined arms map, though.

What about an Escort Shuttle? It's distinct from the Lambda in terms of both aesthetics and gameplay style, has sufficient weaponry to hold its own (especially the rear-mounted turbo laser turret that players of TIE Fighter loved to take out with concussion missiles tongue ), and looks civilian enough to be a non-Imperial ship. It's the best EU candidate I can think of at the moment, all other candidates being too big for most of our maps.

I propose we pull something out of our collective saarlac pits that looks authentically starwars, that fits the role of maneuverable light air transport.

I don't mind this idea. I'd have nothing against the team making up some Rebel counterpart to the Lambda, as long as it looked authentic and was fun to play with.

Re: Transport requested!

I've already got some plans in early stages for a potential Rebel counterpart to the Lambda, it is something of my own design, but inspired by vehicles from the movies, this little side project is on hold for the time being, but when we have less on our plates I'll bring it out again to continue development of it.

For an idea of what I'm talking about look to the early chapters of that Fan Fiction Competition example tale I wrote last year.

Re: Transport requested!

It  would be nice to have a vehicle with flight characteristics a little closer to a helicopter, that's for sure.

Love the vehicles we already have, tho. smile

Cool! Though we also need an Imperial counterpart to the lambda.
What is needed is an open air transport that drops you to the ground when you jump out.

Old Republic ships probably won't be in.

I agree.

The 2142 air transports are complete LAAT analogues.  If we stuck s-foils on to them and reskinned them they would be perfect.
Thats not really an option in a 'total conversion' so making something LIKE, but NOT a laat is what we should be going for.
GCW Contemporary air transports.

Aside from being closed (well, CRT's have a ramp O death like the lambda) CRT's and Stormtrooper transports are too big.
The ship should be able to land on/hover over most cps, buildings, statics, so the guys inside can jump out.

Re: Transport requested!

An Imperial counterpart to the Lambda? The Lambda is as Imperial as it gets. I guess you're talking about a lighter air transport?

Well we currently have no plans to develop anything of that type right now, the Lambda really handles our rapid air transport needs, with the soon to be released Sentinel providing a heavier option. The Lambda in the right hands can land pretty much anywhere and provide good support for the troops it deploys, if used properly with crew manning the guns to prevent them from being cut down as they depart.

I suppose an option for lighter transport aircraft could be to use something similar to the transport airspeeders seen over Coruscant, but like I say, we have no plans to develop anything of this type right now. Perhaps sometime in the future? Who knows?

Re: Transport requested!

with respect, the lambda 'handles' air tranport like a butter knife handles posidrive screws, it can be done but its not easy or pretty.

I thought its design limitations were self evident.

But this isn't my bash the lambda thread- this is just a suggestion, based on what the mod seriously lacks.
