Topic: 3ds max editing tool

hi folks, first of all i'am very new here and im also very new to my 3ds max 2010. Now can this 3ds max be used as an editor for BF2 or BF2102 since I have the BF2 plugins?  I really don't expect anyone to answer all my questions though but where do I begin creating a map from 3ds max? My tool bar reads BF2 exporter, utilities, light mapping, and batch exporter. By the way I may be working with 2 editors. BF2 editor and 3ds max. Any good suggestions for me?:P

Re: 3ds max editing tool

Not really my fields, but there should be tutorials online if no one with the knowledge answers your questions here.

It's OK but I think I finally found a tutorial at: http://fenring.bf1942.cl/tutorials/createbasiclevel.php and in case for thoese who need it also as well. Im just a beginner myself and I really love BF2142 and FS:D

Re: 3ds max editing tool

We mostly use Max here, you don't use it as an editor for BF2 though, basically you use it to create assets which you then throw into the BF2 Editor. The plug ins for Max allow you to create assets which are compatible with the BF2 Editor such as Bundlemeshes and Staticmeshes. You'll also need a plug in for Photoshop that allows you to create textures which the editor can use too. Maps themselves (terrain etc,) tend to be created within the editor itself.

Good luck with your first dabbles with these programs, what field are you particularly interested in? Modelling, texturing, mapping? Or are you undecided at this point?

Re: 3ds max editing tool

Hi and thanks so much for the ideas you suggested to me. I love doing lots of creations on my adobe photoshop as a hobbie, for a coaster game, and now I'm just tapping on the surface of my 3ds max also. Probably undecided yet of which 3 that im interested in but more likely I'll be liking them all. Thanks for the luck you gave me in this I certainly appriciate it:D
