Topic: Feedback plox!

I'm a Product designer looking for feedback on this concept alarm.
My awesome GIMP skillz above demonstrate how the alarm will be worn. Essentially it wakes you up by stimulating your muscles electrically (like a slendertone device) rather than an audio tone.

I sleep through normal alarms a lot, and my brother is worse than me. Seems to be a common complaint if you stay up late , game or drink (or worse , all three) and among the students I know.

This device is essentially 'wake up insurance' for when you cannot afford to sleep in.

If you'd take a minute, i'd appreciate any comments you may have, along with the following:

1: Do you sleep thru your alarm?
2: Ever used a slendertone or similar EMS device?
3: Would you buy this, priced at 26 Pounds sterling, 30 Euros, 40 Dollars

Re: Feedback plox!

1) Yes, sometimes. But when I do, I apparently manually shut off the alarm before falling asleep again with memorizing it.
2) I don't even know what that is. Is it like a wake-up light where a gradually increasing "annoyance" makes you wake up?
3) No, I don't think an average customer would, so would I self. The problem I see here is that people will not spend 30 euros on a clock that'll sent electricity through your upper arm an area which is very vulnerable and which is pretty close to your head. The educated part of me completely understands where you're going at, but I wouldn't want to try something like this out for 30 euros.
I think I'd like this concept better if it would be an alarm that's wrapped around my ankle or foot, since that would stimulate people more to wake up and it would make me more comfortable with the electricity-stimulation-thingy.

Re: Feedback plox!

to clarify- the slendertone website.
http://www.slendertone.com/
Slendertone uses a gentle current to make your stomach flex , thus allegedly toning your muscles.
That's the alarm effect we're talking about- essentially it will contract and release your arm muscles - as if someone was gently shaking your arm to wake you.

Yes, no, yes.

Glad to be of help tongue !

Seriously, though, actually I see a use for this that you may have overlooked -- travel. Whether it's napping at the airport waiting for a plane, or sleeping on the bus afraid you'll miss your stop or a rest stop or whatever, you can't exactly bring a huge alarm clock with you when travelling, and personally I hate setting my cell phone to alarm (it's just one of those things). But a discrete little thing around my arm waking me up? No problem.

Re: Feedback plox!

That is indeed a great way to use something like this. I hadn't thought of that, but now the idea of an alarm you can use in public which won't annoy other people that are using the train/plane. If you would use this to schedule your naps, that'd be very, very usefull.

3. No

Good idea, I do think the price might be a little too high though, if you could drop it down to around £20 I think you'd have more luck. If indeed it is more successful at waking you up than an audio alarm it could be a very good product, especially with the travel applications mentioned above.
