Topic: Y-Wing Loadout Change for Parmel

So, I believe that we all enjoy Strike at Parmel, but a couple things should to change in my opinion.

The Y-Wings are the only bombers in the map, and once a couple ties get behind one, it becomes rather useless. Since there is no objective on this map, there really is no point in having the Y-Wing. No really takes it unless they are huge fans of the Y-Wing (like me).

What I suggest is that we change the missile loadout of the Y-Wing. Those twelve proton torpedoes do nothing in this map, and since we all know that the Y-Wing can carry a number of different payloads, I strongly believe we should switch out it's proton torpedoes for concussion missiles. I think it should have four, being a bomber and all, and it would increase it's survival rate.

The X-Wing doesn't need a change like this since it already is a formidable starfighter.

Anyway, what do you think about this? And I didn't put this topic in the Suggestions part of the forums because not too many people read it.

Get a gunner. roll

On the contrary, the torps are very useful in taking out the defensive turrets. I think it only takes one torp to destroy one. They're hard to hit though as they're so small.

Re: Y-Wing Loadout Change for Parmel

When I first envisaged Strike at parmel, I had one goal in mind. To create a space map that focused purely on dogfighting and did so by emulating the -Wing Vs Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance multiplayer dogfight modes. There would be one differance though. Those games could support a limited number of players (and lagged badly!), whereas First Strike had the ability to emulate some of that gameplay on a much bigger scale.

To make it more interesting for the player, I decided to try and add in the majority of First Strikes fighter/bomber craft, thus enabling you to choose your favourite starfighter. The Y-wing is after all a fighter/bomber, not a pure bomber.

The ships I obviously left out were the TIE Bomber and the B-Wing, the reason being that both these craft are much too cumbersome for dogfighting. The Y-Wing on the other hand can hold it's own in a dogfight (believe it or not!), and to ensure that I used the two seater variant.

Personally, I do not consider the Y-Wing 'useless', especially once you get a good gunner on board, or fly as part of a group.

Parmel may seem a simple map. you start, fly to the enemy, destroy get killed repeat. There is more to it than that though, there are various strategies you can use. I'd think BI could work out a few of those strategies, I know of some that should be very simple for everyone to work out wink

As to changing missiles, do you mean adding the homing missiles to it? I was under the impression people wanted a reduction to missile spam, not an increase. By the way, would be good to get some feedback on what people think to those missile changes.

Trust me, the Y-Wing needs no changes, there are plenty of ways to score kills with it.

Weaving through and around obstacles will never get old for me, thus I approve of this map. tongue

In all honesty, one of my favorite things about piloting is doing crazy things in relation to the environment. If you put me in open space with another pilot, there's as good a chance as any that he'll just swat me out of the sky. Put me in an asteroid field, next to an intricate base, or on a planet with varied structures and terrain, however, the tables may very well turn. wink

This is all, of course, leading up to the fact that I'm not a huge fan of big, empty space maps. Maybe if there are a bunch of decently sized capital ships joining the fray, I can put up with it; after all, capital ships are just large, angry, mobile obstacles. If the battle just takes the form of an empty dogfight in space, though, it gets a bit bland. hmm

Curses, foiled again!
