Topic: Buggy overlay issue

Ever since reinstalling BF2142/FS yesterday I've been getting this issue. I've done a full reinstall of 2142 and FS multiple times (deleting the shader cache and everything) and it hasn't been fixed. It occurs on every map, in both singleplayer and multiplayer.

It seems to be some sort of strange textured overlay. It also has the strange effect of making the game brighter (not seen easily in this screenshot). It is often a lot more noticeable than in this screenshot, as it's completely different every time I start the game. Sometimes it nearly completely blocks my vision. Vanilla 2142 doesn't have this issue no matter how much I've tried to replicate it in there also.

I am using BF2142 patch 1.5, my Nvidia drivers are up to date, as is DirectX and Windows. My video card isn't artifacting, I've had that happen before but it doesn't seem to be what's happening here; no other games have the issue, and this issue is persistent throughout re-installations.

I hope I can get this resolved soon, I was hoping to have it accomplished by the weekend but I've exhausted all known options.

My specs:
Windows XP SP3
Nvidia 9800GTX+
Intel E7200 2.55ghz
Creative X-Fi Titanium
4gb generic RAM

Re: Buggy overlay issue

Try turning off Anti Aliasing.  NVIDIA drivers have caused issues with BF2142 for quite a long time now, and turning of AA is usually the solution.   If you like, you can force Anti Aliasing on through the NVIDIA control panel, just browse to "firststrike.exe" in your BF2142 installation folder.

Re: Buggy overlay issue

Hmm, that did it. I was hesitant to even try, considering the problem isn't occurring in vanilla 2142. The game still seems to be overly "bright" for lack of a better word, like a hidden contrast setting had been put from a default 50 to 100, or something. But I suppose that's all manageable now that the weird overlay is gone, thanks.
