Couldn't it be possible that the flags be replaced by landing platfroms? A group would have to assualt the enemy landing platform. There would be a ship on it (lamba shuttle/rebel shuttle). The place would be taken similar to a flag, by the troops holding there position there, till the timer counts down. Then the cool part. After the timer hits zero, and the platform switches to your teams control, a transport from your team apears on the horizon, flys down toward the pad, and shoots the other transport on the pad, then lands there.
The ship would actually be a dynamic object, not player controled at all. It's movements would be completely scripted for each base on each map, and its appearance is scripted instead of the animation of the flag rising. The transports are not normally destroyable by anything the player can use. You guys know how bullets dont harm tanks? Well the transports are too armored for tanks, turrets, or infantry to harm. But the shuttles themselves have a laser that can do it in one hit. Say your the rebels an you capture a landing pad.The laser fires in a scripted position (its not aimed by anything) which is where the other shuttle was scripted to park, and its therefore destroyed. Then it lands on the pad.

1. This is the control tower, where the actual 'flag capture zone' is.

2. This is the spot where the imperial shuttle lands, and where the rebel shuttle shoots.

3.This is where the rebel shuttle would land, and where the imperial shuttle shoots.

So to sum it all up, there are 2 spots on the landing pad, one the imperial shuttle is scripted to land at, and one the rebel one is scripted to land at. So if a rebel shuttle is coming in becuase the landing pad got captured by the rebels, it shoots where the imperial shuttle parked, and lands in it's own spot.  Also this can be done for anyspawn piont, with pretty much any viechle (so long as its a viechle that no one is surprised that it wont take damage from them).

Why not supress the "flag" system? I never find interesting the idea of capturing flags in idiots locations. For me, the map should have uniques objectives, à la Enemy Territory. Example : HOTH
- A non-capturable landing zone for the Empire.
- 2 flags capturable of outpost (in what way you want)
- The Powergenerator (a sort of "flag" you capture by destroying the gen, and then you CAN'T take it back). This objective MUST be done AFTER that one of the outpost has been captured and must be done BEFORE you can attack Echo Base.
- 2 flags in Echo Base (one with the commander, one you need if you want open doors in the base etc...
- a last rebel flag which is only capturable at the end [here, the rebels gallofree]. If the flag is captured, the rebels lost. Some flag can be recaptured by the rebel, some can't.
A sort of Frontline/Objectives map.

Then (return to the topic), the objectives can be represented in differents ways : a generator destroyed or not, a breach in a wall, empire icon on screens.... but a little empire/rebel icon visuable (like the US/MEC/PLA flags in BF2) through the walls.

Hmmmm, I've seen most of those elements in different times of Battlefield. It would make it more interesting in my opinion.
