Today's headline on Holonet news, a developing story:
Incursion near Sullust
"Rebel fleet engages lone Star Destroyer in stunning action, battle ongoing near Sullust"
As the vanguard for the Rebel battle fleet elements heading for Sullust before the attack at Endor, a decent-sized Rebel task force enters the space near Sullust to chase off any loitering Imperials. To their horror, they discover not a small patrol force, but a lone Imperial Star Destroyer watching over the world. Knowing that it is only a matter of time until the bulk of the fleet arrives, the Rebel force chooses to engage the Destroyer, in a desperate attempt to neutralize and silence the vessel before it can report the entire Rebel fleet's rendezvous point.
Depending on the size of the map, the Rebels get a certain number of capital ships, ranging from Medium Transports to Corvettes to Nebulon B Frigates to maybe an MC30 Torpedo Cruiser or a MC40 Light Cruiser. All rebel ships are mobile, but only the Nebulon B Frigates and MC40 Light Cruiser (if included), can launch fighters: X-wings, A-wings, and B-wings. The Imperials get their non-moving Star Destroyer, which, in addition to its automated defense cannons, also has separate turbolaser/ ion cannon sections on the ship that can be manned (five in all: four for each birds-eye quadrant of the vessel (one section covers both the top and the bottom of the ship), and one to defend the Bridge tower and the rear of the vessel). The manned turbolasers would be optimized for targeting capital ships and would have a much harder time hitting fighters. The Destroyer would also get a fighter complement of TIE Interceptors and Bombers.
The Turbolaser sections on the ship can be temporarily disabled with ion cannon fire, and can also be destroyed once the ship's shields go down. Even without the turbolaser sections, the automatic cannons on the ship (like what you currently have on the ISD, including more guns on the bottom), will still operate.
The Rebels order of attack is:
-The two topside shield generators.
-The Communications tower.
-The Engines.
-The Bridge.
-The Bottom Reactor dome.
The Rebel capital ships will not respawn, but that's not how the Rebels will lose; They also have a ticket count, that will drain with time, much like the Battle of Yavin.
Sound like a good enough map scenario?
