Topic: Forcing Squads

*I need to make it clear this is just a what-if scenario*

I wanted to ask what everyone's opinion on servers kicking a player after ~30 seconds for not joining a squad. Personally I quite like it. I've seen it work well with PoE2 for BF2 and find it does nothing but encourage teamwork.

Most games of FS I experience one or two squads per team MAX, with only one of them full. I then create my own squad and try to invite people but I find they usually reject my offer.

IF you join a squad, you get

-the use of many tools in each class
-an extra spawn point (usually at the front lines)
-the joy of working together with a coshesive team
-victory

Now I can see some of you might say, "I dont want to join a squad, I dont like to follow orders", or "I dont like the pressure of being a squad leader". Thats fine smile You dont have to follow orders just because you are in a squad, you dont have to lead just because you are a squad leader. The point is, I see nothing but benefits when being in, or assuming the role of leader, in a squad. Most times it can actually lead to unintentional teamwork smile And its always more fun. No matter what kind of player you are.

Anyway, thats my case. Opinions?  Also for server admins: Is this even possible in 2142?? I know it was in BF2.

Re: Forcing Squads

Yes for sure.

And it's 100% do-able.

Re: Forcing Squads

You shouldn't have to force a player to do anything.  Yeah, the best way to help cultivate a growing player base would be to kick newbies after thirty seconds.

Come on, Jay.

Re: Forcing Squads

Seconded, Canadiens. The players make the game, not the rules. When people figure out that playing in squads is the way to win, they'll play in squads. We shouldn't force it. We should encourage it (which you guys have already done).

On another note, is there a way to make the maximum size for a squad larger? Say, like 8 or 9?

Re: Forcing Squads

80 seconds and an updating message with a timer would do the trick perfectly.

Not everyone pays attention to the server messages, especially since most of them are frivolous "Welcome to Blablablablah Gaming 1.25 server!" type text strings.

The Battlefield franchise is about playing how you want, not being forced into a squad or kicked after you join a server.

It's a bad, bad idea.  Why on earth would you implement anything with the remote possibility of alienating new players at this juncture when the mod is finally picking up some momentum?

Re: Forcing Squads

Let's implement a realistic security system on heavy vehicles, as well.  If you don't enter a four-digit code, which is posted on the FS forums weekly, you are not qualified enough to drive the tank and are kicked from the server.
