Re: Forcing Squads

lol chill Canades, I guess I need to make it clear this is just a what-if scenario.

I'm all about giving the player as much freedom and choices I can give. Trust me. Its the main reason I can only stand playing Battlefield online. Other shooters are nothing but shallow spawn-die deathmatch that we've been playing for too many years.

I suppose kicking the player IS too harsh actually. You are right, our fanbase seems to be just finding a foothold. Maybe theres a better solution? Giving reminders in Bold colored text at the top of the screen? I dont know.

If you dont like the idea, lets hear some suggestions smile

Re: Forcing Squads

Make the font bigger. And a different color. And when/if implemented post it into the changelog.

I was going to edit one of my posts and say it's the right idea, but with that brute force implementation it might be a disaster.

I've actually found that it's quite easy to get people to join a squad I have formed with one or two additional ones.  The situation I usually see is

ALPHA 6/6
BETA 4/6
MY SQUAD 2/6

or something along those lines.  Add in one or three lone-wolf players on that team and you're already looking at a full server.

I don't think it's as big an issue as it seems...lack of teamwork, rather.  When players stick around for a couple of rounds they quickly learn the benefits of joining up.

Re: Forcing Squads

Make this then an optional server setting, as you can see in PR, |TG| I believe still has a Squad join autokicker and it is THE most populated, most teamwork intensive, server in PR, bar-none.

I believe if this were able to be set from server to server you would see the same results, provided it's put onto a server that already gets regular traffic.

PR and FS are vastly different mods with very different fan bases.  Even if we make our guns shoot non-crosseyed, the mods will be vastly different mods.  I wish people would stop fricken' pointing to PR and trying to emulate it in Star Wars fashion.  First Strike is not a Star Wars sim, it's a Star Wars game.

Re: Forcing Squads

I wasn't talking about gameplay. A server setting kicking people has nothing to do with how the guns shoot or it being a simulator vs a shoot em' up game.

And I don't see why our playerbase cannot adapt and play the game 'smarter' ?

I point to PR a lot. But I am not trying to make FS INTO PR, there are certain things in PR and other mods that undeniably work better. And they have nothing to do with realism.

Re: Forcing Squads

I think it is a bad idea at this point to be quite honest, we have enough problems with people getting kicked because of Punkbuster and other glitches without adding intentional ways of kicking people right now. I do believe we need a way to make new players more aware of the benefits of squading up, but I don't think this is the way to go about it, at least not now. This is something we could possibly introduce way down the road when things have settled down and we have a rock solid player base, but it is not something I would mess with now. For now some very clear messages in text regarding squading up would be enough in my opinion.
