Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

My setup is for when we fly "lock-on" ( heavy duty fighter flight sim ) and consists of an aluminum framethat supports the seat, throttle and stick, with a lower frame extending out on the floor to support a set of 1996 vintage "thrust-master" RCS rudder pedals.
THe stick is a thrust-master FCS from about the same time , and the throttle is an SFS-64 Two-engine split throttle. The stick is located just forward of the front edge of the seat, and the throttle is on my left side. This seating allows 6 axis control in a flight simulator arrangement.  Its not all that expensive, except welding up the aluminum frame - I did myself and saved $$.
So speaking of rudder controls, it sure gives the attacking pilot added aim control during te fight, as I can "slip" the craft around a little to hit you.

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

I use a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force for my aerial pwnage. And yes, I've shot down even Twigs a few times. Right? Here's how I have my stick set up:

I'm using my facebook to host this image, so it might not work.

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

Don't much enjoy space, but when you do play the stick certainly is the only way to go.  I use this sucker, Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 Pro, nice but still haven't decided on a good control layout beyond boost in the center on the striped key, secondary fire to the right.  The hat switch is 8 way on it, using it for camera views actually sounds like a pretty neat idea, may have to give that a shot.

Yeah, all it takes for me to check my six or wing clearance is a quick flick of my thumb. It's incredibly efficient.

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

All this talk of sticks is really tempting me to get one. I've always used mouse and keyboard for First Strike space and done pretty okay, but yeah, I might splash out on some serious stickage, I deserve it. I'd be interested to see if it really makes that much difference to my FS flight skills. I guess you guys will find out soon enough.

wink

I haven't used stick since I used to play Starlancer and having stick really did take that space flight sim to another level. Looking forward to this. Anyone got any tips on a favorite stick out there on the market right now? I used to have a Thrustmaster, which was an excellent joystick, so I might go that way again unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

Using a joystick (especially one with twist rudder) will make your flying game quite tight. Back in the days of GC, I ruled the skies in just about anything, especially the Gunship, with the Cyborg. I heartily recommend the joystick I use to anyone who wants an edge in combat, but if the Cyborg isn't your calling, look for a joystick that A. isn't a logitech joystick (I've had bad experiences with them), B. Has twist rudder (or rudder pedals outright), and C. Has a good number of dominant hand thumb buttons and a POV hat (Being able to manage a lot of functions with a single hand movement makes things much faster).

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

As Jafar said, twist rudder is an absolute must.  Important enough that I thought I should emphasize it wink

I'm not a great pilot, so I can't really backup my claims, but my thrustmaster has worked superbly for me.
